Sony KDL-40M4000 Stuck on Bravia logo

    I have a customer's Sony Bravia KDL-40M4000. (Manufactured 2008)

When powered up, the green power LED lights, backlight comes on, the word "Bravia" appears in white on a black screen, then just stays there forever. No menu, no options to get past the splash screen, chassis buttons (Vol, Chn, etc.) do nothing.

The only button that appears to function is the power button itself. (And it's a little flaky as well - I believe the power switch may just be dirty - It feels like it "bounces" when depressed and the TV will often power on then immediately off again on removing your finger from the button. Pressing it more firmly seems to allow it to stay on)

I assume the failure to move past the Bravia boot logo would indicate a Main board issue, as that's where all the logic resides... BUT - Before I go ordering a replacement Main board, anyone else have any experience with this issue? ("Bravia" boot logo splash screen never disappearing). Anything on the power board that could cause that symptom?

It's not a TCon problem and it *seems* like the power board should be ok because it is powering up, backlights working, logo displayed, etc. It just doesn't want to continue past the logo. As far as I can determine, the only "Factory Reset" available on this model must be done via the remote and on-screen menus - Not an option because I can't get past the Bravia logo to GET to a OSD.

I've been a qualified electronics technician for 30 years, I have a full commercial shop & all the necessary test equipment. It's the first time I've encountered this particular issue and have had no luck at all Googling the problem.

Any suggestions/tips/tricks/experience from those more familiar with Sony TVs would be gratefully accepted.

Possible EEprom problem. If you have a scope then you can check the data line (SD and CLK) to see there's still activity once the logo appears.
If you don't then you can try freezing it to see if it boots. Also a search the web / forum to see if there is an issue with the EEprom on this set.

Well, I'm not sure a photo will help much, but here are the part nos:

        Chassis: Sony KDL-40M4000
        BM Board (Main board): A-1547-029-A
        Power board: IP5Z-40A

I've got the service manual but besides component location, it isn't much help. The troubleshooting table is VERY basic.

        Any additional suggestions gratefully accepted.
