• Re: Emerson LC320EM2 not powering up

I just repaired one of these as well. What a bloody nightmare!

Initially purchased the typical repair kit, replaced 12 components, promptly re-blew Q600, Q601, D604 & D610. Problem child turned out to be D640. (It wasn't initially obvious because everything else was on the cold side.) I finally ended up pulling T600 from the board just to circuit-trace and tracked down a shorted D640. Re-replaced blown stuff, *poof*, I was finally able to call my customer for pickup of a working TV.

    A little trick when...

My first guess would be a TCon problem.

If you disconnect the main board connector labelled "14" (the cable running between the main board & power board) & apply power, do the backlights come on?

  • Re: Service manuals available free

    Hi all,

Looking for a service manual/schematic for a Westinghouse WD55UW4620 - 55" LCD TV. If someone has it, you'll be my bestest friend. :-)

NO, I didn't have to jumper or force the PS - Correct voltages are all present the moment I plug in, without having to command the set on. (Seemed unusual to me too...)

The power button itself and cabling seem fine - Although I can't identify which pins on the main board connector are specifically tied to the power button, I CAN see resistance changes when pressing the button & measuring each pin (there's an 8-wire ribbon cable from the button module to the main board - I measured each pin) to ground. They...

Ahhhh, THAT's where it is.... The labels are covered with a big gob of potting compound so I couldn't see it initially. Thank you!

So - BL-ON: .05vdc. Disconnect cable between Main & Power board, BL-ON jumps to 1.34vdc then slowly decreases to close to 0 over 2-3 seconds. Doesn't matter if backlights are connected or not, same voltage readings.

2-wire back light connectors (wired to backlights) on pwr brd: .65vdc, decreases to 0 when pwr brd <-> main brd ribbon disconnected.

Yeah that's kinda the direction I'm leaning as well... I'm not seeing anything hinky that makes me suspect the power board, so it should be the main... I figured I'd check with the experts here to maybe educate me with some additional tips on flipping the coin as to whether it was more likely a Main or Power Board replacement.

I'm usually lucky enough to have some sort of reasonable "evidence" that narrows down the suspect but in this case, particularly without a schematic/service manual, I'm...

From my OP: "Checked all power board voltages (between power brd & main brd) - All appear to be within reasonable values as per the board markings. Nothing missing, nothing too far out of whack. No voltage changes anywhere when pressing power button."

PS_On sits at 4.72vdc, no changes pressing pwr button, no changes with IR power button... All voltages marked on power board appear to be witin .2v of what's marked on the board.Re: Westinghouse 55" - mostly dead

Just looking a little closer, the power board part number is AY155D-4SF12, not AY155D-45F12 as I'd originally listed. (The 5 and S look too similar for these old eyes I guess) :-)Re: Westinghouse 55" - mostly dead

Thanks for the reply (sorry for the delay in responding) - Unfortunately without a schematic, I can't even identify the BL_ON pin - The connectors have voltages listed but there isn't much to identify the purpose/source of each pin.

If anyone has a link to a schematic/service manual for this thing, it would be appreciated. Thanks!...

  • Westinghouse 55" - mostly dead

I have a cheap junky Westinghouse WD55UW4620 TV in my shop. (Pretty sure these are Wal Mart/Best Buy specials...)

Problem: Won't power on. Red power LED on constantly, power button/remote does nothing. No variation/indication when pressing power button.

All boards look good, no popped caps, nothing looks burnt.

  • Re: Sony KDL-40M4000 Stuck on Bravia logo

Well, I'm not sure a photo will help much, but here are the part nos:

    Chassis: Sony KDL-40M4000
    BM Board (Main board): A-1547-029-A
    Power board: IP5Z-40A

I've got the service manual but besides component location, it isn't much help. The troubleshooting table is VERY basic.

    Any additional suggestions gratefully accepted....

  • Sony KDL-40M4000 Stuck on Bravia logo

    I have a customer's Sony Bravia KDL-40M4000. (Manufactured 2008)

When powered up, the green power LED lights, backlight comes on, the word "Bravia" appears in white on a black screen, then just stays there forever. No menu, no options to get past the splash screen, chassis buttons (Vol, Chn, etc.) do nothing.

The only button that appears to function is the power button itself. (And it's a little flaky as well - I believe the power switch may just be dirty - It feels like it "bounces" when depressed and the TV will often power on then immediately...

Hi - I'm a veteran electronics tech (veteran, as in ex-military). I repaired radios and radar in aircraft for 20 years, and now own my own computer/electronics store. I've been registered and coming to BadCaps for years, but have never posted. So here I am! :-)
