    RCALED42C45RQ inverted pic

Hello guys, Fixing a 42 inch RCA LED TV for a friend, discovered a bad main board and ordered a second hand one off eBay. Installed it and everything works other that the pic and menu is upside down.

Would this be something reloading the proper firmware would fix? I went into the service menu but couldn't find a way to fix.

I suspect my second hand board is not identical? Also, could it be a bad TCON?

    The old board is a T420HVN01.1 E13010018-1A00629

I checked for updated firmware on the RCA site and it said up to date so no luck downloading.

    Thanks, Jake

probably like you say the mainboard does not match the lcd panel in your tv some times they can be altered in the service menu but im not sure which sub menu etc it maybe in.
is there a setting too say what size tv you have ie 42 inch does that match ok in the service menu.

The model number is RCALED42C45RQ if that helps.

hope there is a way to change or ill have to eat 50$ and order the proper board! I could only hope the firmware would fix this!

Go into the Service Menu and look for a 'Flip Screen' or 'Invert Screen' choice....What is the T-CON Bd No.??...Does it say LG per chance?

          Re: RCALED42C45RQ inverted pic

The model of the tv you provided we have worked with many times. This model uses I believe 6 different panels dependent on the version. If your image is flipped it is because you probably ordered this board based on its board number and not by part number/panel. Most retailers on ebay and smaller websites have no idea what they have and what panel number the board was taken out of.
There is no option to flip the screen without major tampering with the eeprom.
What you need to do is give us your panel number. It will be on a sticker inside the tv.

Go to shopjimmy.com and type in LED42C45RQ, you will see all the different types of main boards this guy uses. Match up the correct one with your tv and then buy the eeprom chip for it. it will be $15 for the chip and that will take care of your problem.
They sometimes match the software with the serial number of the tv and sometimes with the panel number. Most instructions will be in described in their listings.
          good luck

            Re: RCALED42C45RQ inverted pic

It looks like an 8 pin IC. Can you just unsolder the original EEPROM and fit it to the replacement board?

The original eeprom unfortunately is more than likely the original issue, but definitely worth a try.

I had the same problem after changing a faulty motherboard and was lucky that the exchange worked for me. No guarantee but worth a try.

I do still have the old board. Is this EPROM U16 by chance?

It might be worth a shot!

Yes U16 should be the eeprom. It will be an 8 legged chip closest to the LVDS cable which is the black connector with all the really small thin wires that come out of it.

                      Re: RCALED42C45RQ inverted pic

I bit the bullet and purchased another main board with matching numbers! Installed and the pic is still inverted??? WTH??? Could it be the TCON?

This tv is driving me to drink! LOL

Ill list all part numbers i can below,

Big sticker on the inside of tv

                      Model:t420HVN01.1-QYE

                      smaller sticker above T420HVN01.1 B

Old Original main board "bad" 42RE010C878LNAo-A1 new board has matching number.

there is another sticker on each main board with a bar code and number below. Those numbers dont match. the original bad board number was E13010018-1A00629 below that is T420HVN01.1.

The new board is E12100381-3A00095 below that is T420HW09-VO

                      Any ideas?

                        Re: RCALED42C45RQ inverted pic

They look like they are for two separate AUO LCD panels.
The main board number should match the panel T420HVN01.1
Did you try swapping the EEPROM from the original board to it's replacement?

                          Re: RCALED42C45RQ inverted pic

                          Jake,

Its all about the software in the U16 chip. I can take your board, and by replacing the software on that chip I can make it work for your TV, and I can make it work for a 32" RCA as well as a 52 inch RCA. All of the main boards for RCA are very similar and are almost all built the same. The biggest difference between them is going to be the software in that u16 chip. If you bought a random main board for a 42" RCA led model, then you would probably have a chance of either getting inverter picture, or heavy discoloration and solarization on screen. If you place software for a slightly large or slightly smaller set, then you will usually get pixilated picture and sometimes inverter as well.
Eitherway all of your issues are coming from that u16 chip. That is why we were stating that you may want to place your original back onto one of the boards you purchased. If that doesn't work, it may be because the software was bad in the first place.
Take a look at Shopjimmy's listing:

                          http://www.shopjimmy.com/rca-42re010...y-see-note.htm

and more specifically at the writing in red under the photo. In this instant, it looks like the part is serial number specific. which means that several of these exact same model TV's used different panels dependent on where they were manufactured which you can tell by the serial number.
If we look at the eeprom listing:

                          http://www.shopjimmy.com/rca-led42c4...eprom-only.htm

You will see that they go back to using the panel number as a measure for compatibility which can also be determined by the serial number of the set.

If you look at the LCD panel interface connection tables given in 3.2 on both panels they have different connections on quite a few of the pins.

Ok, Thanks for all the help guys. I did swap the original eeprom to the second main board. The pic was still inverted. I gave up and got another 42re010c878lna0-a1 board and its still inverted. But the number "T420HVN01.1" does not match the panel number T420HW09-V0?

What eeprom do i need to order on SJ to convert the A1 09V0 board im using now? I wanna start with fresh software on a new U16 eeprom.

                              Thanks again guys!

Go into the service menu. [Press Menu then 1147] scroll down to Other - Enter. Then scroll down to Mirror control - turn it on. this should flip the picture. Good luck.
