Panasonic TH-P50U30A - vertical solid black bar

Image is not actual but is exactly what this set has and same location.

As most would know any vertical lines is usually a good sign the panel is shot due to the ICs on the bottom ribbons being cooked.

This TV was advertised "Working condition although need to replace a bulb inside thats why theres a black streak on screen when watching tv."

Of course I'm thinking horizontal or the SC was about to let go.

Anyway I get there and it's the big black vertical which i mentioned was not repairable but they were adamant it was just a bulb

disappointed but not the end of the world.

Since parts for these are not available and especially the SD & SU boards I've got my moneys worth there alone. So all boards are good.

Could prove useful even as a test mule for SC,SD, SU board repairs.

She, who I never obey is not so impressed If I keep it for that

Just for those who ask is there a way to check if a panel is shorted, I disassemble it enough to get the C2 board out. gave that a good inspection, nothing found, all contacts are clean and the pure black bar does indicate that ribbon is effectively off.

So I went through the schematics and found te GND and 3.3V lines for the offending connector CB5.

then matched those locations to the panel ribbon, ohmed that out and came back with 9.6ohms. All the others I check went into Megohms, so clear cut shorted out panel ribbon.

Saved me swapping boards out in hope. Such a waste, done a mere 5700 hrs and yes the screws were loose. Att least 2 were so loose they were not making contact

Peoples perception of what is faulty can be quite strange. It reminds me of the LCD sets occassionally advertised as "set in need of repair, screen not broken" when in fact the LCD panel is completely smashed but the outer screen covering the panel is fully intact.
Willing to help but I'm no expert.

I get that haha, I think the weirdest one is from Tom66 he had someone say the starter motor had failed in the Tv because it was stuck in standby

          I like that one ReeceyBurger123.
The other ones often advertised are "An easy fix for someone who knows what they are doing", or, "I've been quoted only xx.xx to repair."

            plausible I guess.

Sounds like it's be one of these

Same horrible screws on those 'C' boards as everywhere else on this model...

Maybe worth changing out those on any that come your way. Arcs and poor earths a sure way to kill semis...

Ive a 50U30B I'm going through at the moment for myself, between other jobs- fixed the buffers, set running well, and have replaced the SC PSU and SS screws, -Think I'll do the ones on the bottom address boards--Just to be sure....
(The greenish ones from scrap LG sets are just about right, spring and flat washer, but just a little longer...)

Hard-soldered the supply VSUS, 15V-C and GND from PSU to SS and SC, as found out the hard way a slight arc on one of those can/does kill an SC

Added a few heatsinks to the SS and SC plus some fug-stirrers to the chassis...

When I got the set, the thing did the 7-blink shuffle (two buffer-chips) and lots of loose screws.....

The C buffer screws were tight and since those boards have proper metal lands for earthing then they're unlikely to compress.

They made a nice cracking noise when I undid them.

Where the sustain boards , have solder lands, heat cycles and resonate, all of which work them loose,

Thanks for offering your assistance with this. I'm an electronics enthusiast with moderate level of competence (have a decent lab with two power supplies, microscope, DSO, hot air, good iron, can competently work at a component level on SMDs, design and solder own PCBs etc). I really enjoying fixing things and learning new stuff so took up a free 58" LED TV and have been googling and watching Youtube videos to see if I can fix this! I am happy to go down to individual component replacement/strip replacement etc - it's all in the name of learning.

The issues are as follows: the...

                    Hey guys,
I had a previous thread about this TV here: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=79192

My problem was the top half of the TV had went out and the problem ended up being on the SU board.

That problem is now fixed and I am left with a different problem. There is a roughly 2" vertical black bar on the left side of the display and a single pixel wide red and green stripe on the right side of the display.

I have tried reseating the ribbon cables to the panel without any results. I do not think the TV had this problem before...

Panasonic cf 20 will no longer boot-only black screen
                    by Rescogitans
Hello all. Only my second post.

I have a panasonic CF-20C5142VM which was booting to bios with no issues. I needed to add an ssd that was not initially being recognized by the bios. Found a link that suggested that I disable uefi mode and clear keys then to reboot to allow bios to now see New ssd. After restarting, screen is entirely black with no image. Found another post that suggested unplugging bios battery because some remnants of the bios may still exist in other parts of board but did not fix issue-screen is still black.
Anyone run across something like this before?...

Strange LG TV issue : Image vertical lines in black screen
                    by Ancient1
                    Hi

                    Asking for a friend.

I'm used to black vertical line in otherwise good image - probable solution is a rubber to push and tighten the COFs bonding.
but here its the opposite !

TV has new T-con = same issue
A missing panel voltage would have global effect

So , what should one do ? how can I find where the fault is ?

                    Thanks !...

Panasonic TH-50PX8EA Black screen, only relay clicks
                    by Rensiee
                    Hello,
I have been reading a few threads on here regarding Panasonic plasma tv's. I've found one thread which explains the same problem as mine, unfortunately the thread has not been completed.
I got a free tv (TH-50PX8EA) from a friend which shows no screen. When plugged in only one red light shows up and when pushing the ON button, the red LED turns of and will only turn on again when pressing the ON button again.

When plugging in the TV i hear two relays click fast and after a few seconds the third relay clicks.
I have measured the voltage in the VSUS line, which...
