    Element ELEFS552 Main Board Issue

We found this Element ELEFS552 Tv at our cell phone repair shop door with the "donation" letter. We plugged it in and no picture, no sound, and no backlights, no power light. We opened it up and found a burnt regulator possibly. It has a WP 9H marking and has 3 prongs. The power supply looked clean and voltages are as follows
plugged in off plugged in on
    5vSB 5.17DC 5.17
    STB 0 v 0
    GND 0 0
    GND 0 0
    +5 0.004 0.002
    +5 0.003 0.009
    12v 0 0
I will include some close up shots of the burnt circuit which cleaned up good so I might be able to solder a new one in if anybody can identify it. I couldn't find a schematic for the Tv. I'm following the traces on the main and the circuitry is close to the backlight plug so I'm wondering if there might be a possible short in the backlights that shut everything down. I also see CON 2 with GND/ADJ/BK and CON 3&4 going to backlights but I don't know how to test that. And a 4 wire connector with going to the main. Where do I start on this one? Thank you.

Re: Element ELEFS552 Main Board Issue

I looked up that make model and it's a led tv that many ppl have had issues with , some ppl hate that model and a few ppl praise it in their reviews.
This is just my opinion but from all my yrs of doing repairs I've not really run into circuits frying like that unless a dead short has occurred.I'am really wondering if some kind of liquid had managed to find its way into that set. It's not uncommon for people to either spill water into a set or they tried to clean the screen and managed to get water into the set. It's also very common for the water to rot or corrode out the panels ribbons.I'd strongly suggest that you take a good look at the ribbons and their connections.Plus take a a good look at the leds. Again for any circuit to fry like that it has to be a dead short or maybe a really over loaded circuit and I doubt bad leds could fry a circuit like that.I'd also want to check the led circuit's wiring with a ohms meter see if you get any resistance or just a dead short .

Re: Element ELEFS552 Main Board Issue

Thanks EH. I looked for any corrosion and didn't see any. In fact the inside was very clean and other than the crispy 3 prong circuit near the inverter plug it all looked good including the ribbons and board running horizontally under the panel. The main board is very basic for a 55" Tv and but it would have made a nice tv for the shop but I agree that it might be a bad investment to get a new PS and solder a new circuit in the main only to fry it again and have a BL issue or short in the panel. Off to the shelf for now and appreciate any advice as usual.

I see shopjimmy has a 3 board repair kit for $55 for this Tv but I'm worried about a short in the panel or in the led strips that can cause damage to my new boards. Is there a way to test for this before install?

You can test the power supply-LED driver board by itself by disconnecting the cable between the main board and the power supply board first, the use 1K resistor between STB pin and 5VSB pin, and then use another resistor between BK pin and the 5VSB pin on the power supply board, this should force on the power supply and the Backlights circuits, If the backlights still do not come on then you will need another 1K resistor between ADJ pin and the 5VSB pin.

Help Needed: Samsung UE55MU8000 Dead - Possible Main Board Issue
            by Asraf Atb
            Hi everyone,

Im looking for some advice regarding my Samsung UE55MU8000 TV with main board model BN94-11606C. The TV suddenly stopped turning on and now shows no signs of life at all not even the standby light at the bottom.

Initially, I suspected an issue with the PSU, so I took it to a repair center. They tested it and confirmed that the PSU works perfectly, even on other TVs. Based on that, I started investigating the main board.

I disconnected the main board from the PSU, and the backlight turned on, which seems to confirm the main board is the issue....

Is it possible to upgrade from a Vestel 17MB97 main board to a 17MB110 Main board?
            by cheeky2
I suppose the real question is whether the existing pinouts from ether a 17IPS71 psu are cross compatible with a 17IPS12 psu? If they are then the exchange of the main boards should have no issues providing the screen is compatible with both main boards. Obviously you can change the screen configurations easily enough (providing you have the correct files) for the main board. Why may you ask would I do this? Well a lot of the smart features are no longer working on a Hitachi 48HBT62U main board I wish to give it a new lease of life!
Obviously the same LVDS connector for the screen connection...

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
            by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

            Assuming...

Sony RB2G Chassis KDL-55W815B MAIN BOARD 2 Blink Error issue resolved! Happy days :)
            by cheeky2
For anyone interested just repaired this Sony Main board TV that had a 2 blink error code, the chassis is a RB2G which is common to quite a few different Sony models. The Ceramic 10uF 25V X7R 1206 capacitor C9114 was shorted which took the smd 2A 0603 fuse out F9101. This was powering the Buck converter TPS54332 which caused no 5V output from it.
See the attached picture of the locations of both components. I also attach the best service manual I found for this board for anyone else in a similar position of trying to repair this main board. It's not specific to the TV model however it gives...

Samsung UE65RU7090UXZT main board issue no video out. BN94-14180M
            by alltvrepairs
            Hi,

I have confirmed that I have a mainboard problem.
I have tracked no hardware issued on board so might be a software dump required.

I have searched a bit but wasn't able to find anything for my screen:

            Here are some more details:
            Panel: cy-nn065hgev1h
            Main: BN94-14180M P08F

            Your help much appreciated!
