Hi guys. I just wanted to know if it would be ok to test boards I repair in a plasma tv with a cracked screen. I will repair the board then install it in the TV. Its an XSUS board. Will it short out the board if the screen is cracked or the panel is bad?

Re: Bad Panel/Cracked Screen
Well think of it like this, X and Y boards both apply two very different variating voltages across the electrodes in the panel. When you crack the screen it can short these electrodes together which if you try to power up the set can cause issues as you will get voltages where they should not be which can make things go bang.
If its a light crack and the electrodes dont short out the gas might just creap out the panel and it wont be able to ignite it any more in which little damage will be done.Last edited by ReeceyBurger123; 04-04-2016, 06:42 AM.Please Do Not PM My Page Asking For Help Badcaps Is The Place For Advise, Page Linked For Business Reasons Only. Re: Bad Panel/Cracked Screen
Its a Samsung PN51D550C1FXZA, Plasma TV. Here is a pic of the crack on the screen. How would I go about testing the electrodes for shorts? I do get a loud buzzing sound if I have the YSUS board connected to the control board.

Re: Bad Panel/Cracked Screen
As far as I know, these Samsungs are junk and you will fry Y or X, or both, powering it up with the panel disconnected. If the panel is shorted, you could fry them both if it is connected.
Lose, lose. Cut your losses while you can.Comment

Re: Bad Panel/Cracked Screen
thanks guys. I got lucky and found this model tv for sale on kijiji for $200, so I bought it and it works. I will use this as a test jig.
Also, I heard that there is a dummy load that can be built to test the boards, like they do at the factory. Does anyone use this or just a TV?Comment

Re: Bad Panel/Cracked Screen
What dummy load ? Who ever said that to test sustain boards is BS'ing. The boards still output a sustain voltage with or with out the panel connected and if they are damaged will likly blow up anway and you wont get the Sus voltages. Please Do Not PM My Page Asking For Help Badcaps Is The Place For Advise, Page Linked For Business Reasons Only. Re: Bad Panel/Cracked Screen
Not entirely false. You could attach a 100W bulb to the sustain output to load it. However, the plasma panel isn't anything like a bulb, as it is highly capacitive but has low inductance (whereas a bulb has very little capacitance but quite a lot of inductance)Please do not PM me with questions! Hello,
on this laptop acer aspire v571p the led of the power indicator blinks blue for periods of 1s lighted and 3s off after switch on and this indefinitely.

by reformattJust had a customer bring in a M2 MBA A2681 that had had a screen replacement in April at another repairer. Since then, she has been getting intermittent kernel panics. It's an aftermarket screen, and of course it fails in diagnostics as the calibration hasn't been done. The error in the panic log is "No device added after powering on the rails".
It seems the original repairer has swapped the board and the screen to other MAC's, and said that it isn't a screen issue. From what I understand, by doing a quick search on Google, this is in fact a screen issue. The panic relates...07-31-2025, 08:37 PM -
by AJ847.63eHi All,
We've got a HP Envy 12th gen that has been dropped and the LCD panel itself has cracked. The glass is fine just the panel itself is cracked. We ordered a replacement screen assembly using the part number off the HP part surfer website.
Upon installation the touch screen now does not work either in UEFI or win 11. Device manager under the "intel Precise touch and Stylus) menu notes "This device cannot start (code 10) Status_Device_Power_Failure".
I've tried all the usual troubleshooting steps like reinstalling the driver, uninstalling... -
by EazyBoneSo the one guy said the panel short potentially could be fixed so, here's a TV. TV reboots continuously. Backlights work fine. I put some tape on the top ribbon and the TV was able to turn on and get picture. I attached a pic of which lines I taped as well as some other pics of the buffer boards. Appears the "short" is on the right side buffer board. There are no esd diodes that I see.
Anything can be done?8 Photos03-29-2024, 12:04 PM -
by bogosortHello,
I have a MacBook Pro 15” A1398 2013 that has no backlight, but I see an image when putting light through the logo. I noticed that when the screen is plugged in, I get a 300 ohms short (see image).
When unplugged, the short is gone.
Any idea?1 Photo - Loading...
