Hi All,


We've got a HP Envy 12th gen that has been dropped and the LCD panel itself has cracked. The glass is fine just the panel itself is cracked. We ordered a replacement screen assembly using the part number off the HP part surfer website.
Upon installation the touch screen now does not work either in UEFI or win 11. Device manager under the "intel Precise touch and Stylus) menu notes "This device cannot start (code 10) Status_Device_Power_Failure".

I've tried all the usual troubleshooting steps like reinstalling the driver, uninstalling the device, making sure windows is up to date, updated the BIOS, reseating and inspecting both the camera and screen cables. Still same issue.

I also tried the hardware diagnostic in UEFI but there was no touch screen option like mentioned on their support site, so I ran the camera test instead. Weirdly it failed despite working fine in windows both IR and front cam. I ran the test again and now every time I run it passes until I reboot the system than it fails the first test and passes the rest.

I spoke to HP, after telling me to run all the above stuff I had already done they said to run the touch screen test which was not there which they could not understand. Didn't get any further than that as we had to end the chat.

So long story short does someone have a compatibility list or something noting which screens are compatible? The seller insists the screen they sent is compatible, is there a way to find out the part number without opening the display and risk cracking the glass/panel? Are HP doing some pairing nonsense like apple does?

Thanks for the link, I did see that earlier but didn't try it because it's for the intel NUC. I'm used to drivers refusing to install if your not running them on that exact device.

Just tried it now and yup doesn't work. gives a platform unsupported error. Even tried it through device manager. Auto says there already there, as does manual. If you go in and select the folder manually tt finally tries to install finds the drivers but errors out with the same code 10 error code.

Go to the device manager. Click on this device and review the Hardware ID details. This will consist of VEN_**** (8086 if by Intel) and DEV_****.

Share these values. Using the same, may be able to find a resolution of other driver packages. Perhaps another driver dependency. HP forum should have dialog on this issue if common.

For those interested it looks like Apple are not the only ones paring screens to boards. I dug up the service manual for this laptop and it notes if you need to change the assembly you will need to recalibrate the touch screen for it to work please see service note xxx which I assume you’d have in your service dashboard if your an authorised repairer.

i contacted HP pointed them to this and the rep suddenly got very defensive and insisted no this is not correct you must’ve bought the wrong screen. After convincing him the screen is original he agreed to get it sent in and replaced under warranty. Surprise surprise the laptop was returned and the touch screen now works. The screen is the exact same one I put on (I know this as I signed the screen with UV paint pen)
and the serial stickers on the screen cables are also identical.

bios and windows versions seem the same as well so the only thing that could’ve been changed is recalibration for the touchscreen.
