Re: Screen turns off when attempting to use VGA input on Samsung LNT4042HX LCD
But along the way, said computers get updates on a regular basis... not all updates "fix things"... :-) further, just because something sits there doesn't mean it can't fail, things are physical and can have production issues that show with time. "Fail" might be over stating things, "marginal" might be better.
Anyways, I would certain check the cables as mentioned and understand what each has connected where (pin wise) especially the grounds.
Related to this experience, I have a laptop connected to a samsung going thru a vga to hdmi adapter. Was working fine. Upgraded to windows 10, worked fine for a bit (days) then slowly got issues with resolution and "unsupported mode". Tried all sorts of changes to drivers, unplugging/plugging, etc.... nothing worked. Tried the same setup on another samsung, worked fine.... what? Anyways, went back to 8.1, system worked fine again with the original samsung as it always did before windows 10... no other changes.
