    Technika LCD40HD 17PW16 Blown Up

Picked this up for £20 comes with stand, fault is no power what so ever, no standby nothing. Its a older Vestel chassis with by the looks of it a 17PW16-1 Psu so probably something on that is blown.

I have had the exact same Tv before which had blew the Pfc mosfet and Ic causing no standby, wander if its the same issue ? Never know with these Vetsels. This thing is also crammed with dust so will need a good clean more to follow.

Right making some good progress here, however now stumped on something as I have been before. I the fault was on the Pfc side of things however the mosfet and Ic were fine. The ceremic cap C920 was blown up not too sure on its value but I have a spare 17pw15 which I took the cap off this cap goes into the source pin of the Pfc mosfet. After replacing it the set now comes into standby with out blowing the fuse

Its still not properly working though, the standby light comes on and pressing the power button it goes dim but the backlights or Tv doesn't start. I have found that the Pfc is low and not running, everything tests fine but no Pfc buck voltage. I have also checked for cold solder joints and all are good. I have had units like this before with the Pfc not working. Any ideas ?

Well im truly stuck on this, as usual when it comes to this fault on these. I have replace a few of these with low Pfc fault never been able to solve them others have not been able to either. Might as well wait until I get a OS scope then will try and track this one down.

        PFC Chip or MOSFET.....?

I had one with that blue ceramic cap blown apart and fuse shattered.

Just replaced 'em both,--set worked. Cap is 220pF 1Kv as I recall...

I have replaced the cap with a good one, still no Pfc. Also I have checked the Mosfet and Pfc control Ic.

Cheers, however all the solder joints on the Pfc side of things are good I re-soldered them to be sure.

Not yet might give it a blast though, I have seen this before and never has it been the Pfc Ic.
