    Vizio VP50 HDTV20A

Hi everyone.. need some assistance with a Vizio which I believe is really a Samsung.. the screen appears fuzzy.. I can still see the menu however it seems to be lacking some color. Sound is fine. I've taken the back off the set and there does not appear to be any loose cables.

Caps appear to be fine looking them over.. the lower portion of the screen seems to have fuzzy black lines running through it. I'll attach a picture.. tonight I intend to check all the fuses based on what I've read on the forum..

Update: Tested all fuses and all are fine. Picture still there but weak and fuzzy with black lines streaking somewhat across the bottom of the screen. The picture with No Signal shows the lines..

Sounds like a lower ysus buffer fault
Did I leave the soldering iron on?

Possibly lower Y buffer failure. Do you have a Dmm ?

sounds like two possible items I can look into.. any tests I can conduct? I do have a Digital Multi Meter.. ready for next steps. Do I need to download the service manual or can you provide direction? Sure do appreciate everyones help.. I added another image.. note at toward the bottom of the screen the horizontal black streaks..

O.K. I done some additional reading.. I'm going to connect a dvd player to the TV and capture a couple more pictures. Hopefully by capturing some actual TV images we can determine if I should be looking at a Y-buffer or sustain card. However if I'm reading and understanding correctly the Y-Buffer card failure can damage the Y sustain card.. am I going down the right path?

Ok looking over your pictures again it may not be a buffer board however you may have a problem in your y Or z sustain. What are your voltage is coming off the power supply?. About vs voltage.

Hello Freakaftr8.. I see you're online now. I can check voltages tonight is there a certain test point I should be looking at? I'm assuming these are all DC voltages

There appear to be multiple places to check the VS voltage if I'm reading this correctly I'm seeing 200 Volts DC. Vg appears to be approx. 15 Volts

Those voltages sound about right. This looks like possibly a zsus issue. Can you post a picture of what the picture looks like when it's a full white screen? Also does the picture appear to be dim and washed out?

Hello again... just got back from my daughters house where the TV is.. I attached a DVD player to her TV and captured a couple pictures. It seems like the color red is missing and I would agree the picture is somewhat washed out. I'll go back tomorrow and capture a couple more with full white. While there I did remove the Y buffer and X main boards and I could not find any sign of excessive heat or burnt parts. Both boards have been reinstalled and screen appears the same..

I'm going with Freak, i would look at ZSUS / XMAIN. Have you worked out whether this is Samsung or LG based? LG has those horrible IPMs. If samsung it'll be easier and cheaper if it's Z / X board.

If Samsung, check all the fuses including the small green pico fuses, samsung board picture below

those black splotchy streaks are typical Xmain / zsus failure.

Update: I have attached the white picture and also while there check the fuses.. the fuse in the attached picture shows 15V DC on one side of the fuse and approx 5V DC on the opposite side.. all other fuses have the same voltage on both sides.. could this fuse be bad and I'm picking up 5V DV from other components on one side of the fuse?

take the fuse out and test the fuse what does it read on resistance mode? if your unsure of what a good fuse should read take one of the other fuses out and test it, my guess yes it bad but if it is more fault finding will be needed to see why it has blown.

I can certainly do that.. its the small pico fuse and I believe it's soldered in. I'll remove the board tomorrow and unsolder one end. I've looked at the cost of the xmain zsus board and it seems the price has a considerable range. I've seen from 18.00 to approx 80.00. When this board is replaced does it require any voltages to be set?

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                                          Assuming...

                                          Hi.

picked up another TV. This time is a Vizio M65-C1. TV does not turn on. I had repaired another 60 inch vizio , Bad main board.
When power button is pressed, the Power led indicator on the bottom right, turns for a few seconds and then it fades away. No backlight or Vizio logo on screen. Removed back cover and repeated test.
This is the TV This TV is a little different from the Samsung I have worked on. Power supply is on the Left side, Main Bd is on the right side, T-CON , not in the picture is on the bottom. I am assuming that the boards in the middle are the LED...

Vizio M65Q7-H1 Red Vertical Strips fixed by tape blocking LC1 signal to half of the panel

                                          Failure Symptom

No picture, just red vertical stripes. Google search shows quite common problem for these recent Vizio M series although red vertical stripe pattern may differ. Some call it "Netflix" boot screen haha.

                                          Where is the short?

Panel has 4x buffer boards. Quickly found the 1/4 panel buffer board with the problem by selectively disconnecting buffer board flex cables.

Having recently fixed another Vizio with similar symptoms that was a shorted ESD diode array ( link ) Probed the ESD diode array but...

Vizio SmartCast TV software bug that looks like hardware
                                          by howardc64
Bug looks like hardware so thought I posted it here. Exact same behavior on 2 different model 4K Vizio TVs running their SmartCast smarttv software. After launching youtube app, press vizio button on remote to return to the smarttv menu, once in awhile, a column of bad pixels will show for few seconds on the left hand side.

It seems the vizio software is reinitializing hardware when returning to the smarttv menu. In general, SmartCast software isn't very good. Also will randomly (relatively infrequent) get no network connection when on wifi and require reboot....
