Re: Vizio VP50 HDTV20A
Thanks to everyones help this T.V. is now working again.. I think it's possible the Pico fuse may have been all I needed, but to play it safe I also replaced the X-Main board. I did learn that if you do not properly seat the small ribbon cable in the lower lefthand corner of the board the symtom is exactly what I was seeing. When I installed the new board at first it appeared to have the same issue.. then after reseating the small ribbon cable everything was perfect. I did not bother to retry the old board given at one time it had one open Pico fuse.. I'll...

Re: Vizio VP50 HDTV20A
Update: Replaced the Pico fuse and it did not blow..however the picture is still not quite what it should be. There continue to be black streaks running horizontally across the lower section of the screen.. mostly toward the middle of the picture. Seems to lack a crispness in the picture.. when the brightness is turned up the picture turns almost completely white.. really washed out. I'm assuming given the fuse that blew was on the X-Main board that's the board I should attempt to replace.. am I correct?

Re: Vizio VP50 HDTV20A
Thanks for the suggestion tw2005 -- I just ordered some pico fuses from Amazon that will be her Friday.. I'll start by first just replacing the fuse.. that would be awesome if that fixes it. It the doesn't work I'll start looking for a x-main board. There are multiple numbers on the board.. Model PBA number and a PCB number.. do all these numbers need to match the replacement part?

Re: Vizio VP50 HDTV20A
Reposting last post.. Thinking it may not be seen.. After returning from New Jersey I tested the fuse F4702 and it is open. This fuse is on the X-main board.. Does this indicate a bad X-main board or do we continue to troubleshoot to the component level?
Thanks and have a nice holiday!

Re: Vizio VP50 HDTV20A
Alright back from New Jersey and ready to continue troubleshooting.. I lifted one end of the fuse in question and it is in fact open. Question at this point is do I attemtp to troubleshoot this down to the component or is it safe to replace the board?
The board is a Samsung Model No 50"HD W2 x-Main(2L) I'll standby for further direction..
Thanks and of course Happy Thanksgiving...

Re: Vizio VP50 HDTV20A
I can certainly do that.. its the small pico fuse and I believe it's soldered in. I'll remove the board tomorrow and unsolder one end. I've looked at the cost of the xmain zsus board and it seems the price has a considerable range. I've seen from 18.00 to approx 80.00. When this board is replaced does it require any voltages to be set?

Re: Vizio VP50 HDTV20A
Update: I have attached the white picture and also while there check the fuses.. the fuse in the attached picture shows 15V DC on one side of the fuse and approx 5V DC on the opposite side.. all other fuses have the same voltage on both sides.. could this fuse be bad and I'm picking up 5V DV from other components on one side of the fuse?
Ready for next steps... thanks again everyone for providing directions
BF= Blown Fuse
WS = White Screen
Sansung = Label...

Re: Vizio VP50 HDTV20A
Hello again... just got back from my daughters house where the TV is.. I attached a DVD player to her TV and captured a couple pictures. It seems like the color red is missing and I would agree the picture is somewhat washed out. I'll go back tomorrow and capture a couple more with full white. While there I did remove the Y buffer and X main boards and I could not find any sign of excessive heat or burnt parts. Both boards have been reinstalled and screen appears the same.....

Re: Vizio VP50 HDTV20A
There appear to be multiple places to check the VS voltage if I'm reading this correctly I'm seeing 200 Volts DC. Vg appears to be approx. 15 Volts

Re: Vizio VP50 HDTV20A
Hello Freakaftr8.. I see you're online now. I can check voltages tonight is there a certain test point I should be looking at? I'm assuming these are all DC voltages

Re: Vizio VP50 HDTV20A
O.K. I done some additional reading.. I'm going to connect a dvd player to the TV and capture a couple more pictures. Hopefully by capturing some actual TV images we can determine if I should be looking at a Y-buffer or sustain card. However if I'm reading and understanding correctly the Y-Buffer card failure can damage the Y sustain card.. am I going down the right path?

Re: Vizio VP50 HDTV20A
I have a Digital Multi Meter.. are there tests I can perform to prove I have a Y Buffer failure?...

Re: Vizio VP50 HDTV20A
sounds like two possible items I can look into.. any tests I can conduct? I do have a Digital Multi Meter.. ready for next steps. Do I need to download the service manual or can you provide direction? Sure do appreciate everyones help.. I added another image.. note at toward the bottom of the screen the horizontal black streaks.....

Re: Vizio VP50 HDTV20A
Update: Tested all fuses and all are fine. Picture still there but weak and fuzzy with black lines streaking somewhat across the bottom of the screen. The picture with No Signal shows the lines..

Hello again everyone.. I checked all fuses this evening and all checked fine. I took a couple additional pictures of the screen while the TV was on hoping someone may have seen this form of issue before.

Vizio VP50 HDTV20A
Hi everyone.. need some assistance with a Vizio which I believe is really a Samsung.. the screen appears fuzzy.. I can still see the menu however it seems to be lacking some color. Sound is fine. I've taken the back off the set and there does not appear to be any loose cables.
Caps appear to be fine looking them over.. the lower portion of the screen seems to have fuzzy black lines running through it. I'll attach a picture.. tonight I intend to check all the fuses based on what I've read on the forum.....

Re: New Members - please post your introductions here
Hello Everyone -- My electronics background started years ago in the service. I worked on F111's and F15's avionics. When I left the service I went to work for IBM servicing midrange computer systems.
I should mention prior to the service I worked at a local TV shop.. I like troubleshooting and fixing things regardless of what it is..
