the "tape thing" doesn't work if there are side tabs which the set has. Good that you found them and "saved" the set.

FYI I tried the tape thing with no luck as I was going about blindly anyway. But the fix for this 70" was exactly the same for the D650i-B2.

I think most start on outside and work their way in, mostly trial and error.

I see what they're doing with the tape, but is there any method for which pins to cover or trial and error?

Guess you could try the "cut tape" method, sometimes you have to fuss with tape placement to get it right, might not work but doesn't cost much: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7vl7-vZEL8

Maybe check the mlcc caps on driver board for shorts or very low ohms, guess it could also be a tcon issue.

are you looking from the front? Side tabs (no boards) are only visible when the front plastic bezel is removed.... but a 65 may not have them. I think they do... 60 or smaller usually don't.

Yes I have repaired an E701i-A3 with the same issue and fix. One side of this panel is bad I just don't think there are side tabs on this one. I took one apart with a broken screen a couple weeks ago but didn't pay attention.

Has anyone messed with a Vizio D650i-B2? I have one where there's just ghosting picture of vertical lines but disconnecting one side of the panel at the T-Con board gives a good half picture on the other side of the screen. I have not taken the TV apart down to the panel to see if there are any side ribbons that can be removed. Panel # T650HVN05.9

I can't believe this post is still active 4 years later... Anyways i was recently given an E701i-a3. Using this thread i replaced the T-Con Board and disconnected the right side drivers from the LCD panel and too my surprise i got a nice picture on the TV. The only problem is the faint " white" spots around the bottom half of the screen, they are really only noticeable when a white picture is displayed on the screen. Is there a fix for these "white" spots or is this as good as its going to get? Sorry for the terrible picture, it is difficult to get a good picture of these spots.

[QUOTE=nomoresonys;929874]Can you post a picture of it? usually you just poke your probe down from the top a little til you hit metal, guess you could use some stripped bread ties.

gotcha thanks, I am new to all this , trying to figure out what setting to set the multimeter to as well, I am new to this level of repair

I attempted to test this voltage, I am unable to find a place to put the positive side on the powerboard because it is surrounded by plastic. what should I do? can I test it from the maine board side? thanks

Just Picked up a FREE e701i-a3e no picture but backlights on craigslist and I'm about to start my journey....

I have taken everything apart and none of the 3 boards have visible damage, bad looking transistors etc... I just bought a digital multimeter from radio shack as well as a soldering kit. I have an extremely low IQ, but steady hands and a desire to succeed in this fix. Any help would be much appreciated as to the first step I should take, I can buy a new t-con board etc if needed. thanks ! -Josh

All left and right refers to looking from rear of TV (or looking from front with TV upside down)
    • TV came with vertical bars and no image. Found faulty TVS on left buffer board. Also replaced T-Con (may have damaged the original while hot air removing components, board has slight warp) and have full image but few horizontal lines on the screen. Some of the lines appears to be 2 pixel tall while others are 1 pixel tall.
    • Disconnecting left and right buffer board potentially reveals problems on both sides with different signals (unless this T-Con require jumper like Samsung FB_TRDY1&3) Fault

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
    by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

    Assuming...

Hi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic...

    Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

My Oled Tv is 55inch tv, 3 days ago I notice that middle of the screen is getting warmer and on picture I have ghosting, missing red color. Color red was still displaying, but it was not so strong as corners of the screen and watching some movies makes me angry.
Then I get an idea to take it apart and clean boards from dust.
In side of Tv was not so bad, I take compressed air in can, and gently blow up.

Also I was thinking to styrofoam sponge to isolate power board from screen that the middle of the screen will not worm so much. Because Led on screen when gets higher...
