BenQ W1000 DLP projector, not turning on

    Hi guys.

I have a BenQ W1000 DLP projector that has standby light, but upon
turning it on, it will light up power, temp and lamp, all red. Nothing else
happens. Not a peep from any of the 4 fans.

So, I am thinking. Could this be a 12V problem? If I assume that the
fans are 12V. Maybe then the main board senses that the fans aren't
running an opts to keep itself shut off. The lamp has 600 hours on it.

    Suggestions would be welcome

    Thanks!

The manual states that all 3 leds red is a thermal event, I would check any thermal fuses that may have opened.

Can be a failure of a thermal fuse, Failure of the fan itself or the voltage lines that feed the thermal circuits

          Hi.

There are four fans, should be weird if all of them failed. There is 12V present
on the main board and 3.3V on the ICs. I just checked the thermal fuse, and it
          is OK.

It is very difficult finding any repair tips online for this problem, even though
          countless people has had it.

Any advice what to do now?

          Thanks!

Only 1 fan needs to fail

...So if one fan fails(the fan itself) all of them stops??

EDIT: Oh, so one fan dies, and then the PJ won't boot up....

Well, there must be a reason there are 4 fans. Otherwise, they wouldn't put them in there because of the extra cost.

If a fan fails the protection circuit will kick in shutting down power to prevent thermal damage. Though usually you would see the system at least attempt to power on before it went into protection state.

Get the unit open and take some picture of the boards and layout

                    Hi again!

Here are some pics of the mainboard(top).

I checked all the fans with a 12V external power source, they all run! I guess we can rule out that.

What if the fans aren't being powered properly? Missing 12V for them, for example. They can be speed controlled - they usually are. If the projector tries to detect the fans spinning (via tacho-line or current sensing), this won't work even if the fan works out of circuit.
