I have a Westinghouse W4207 that a guy brought me after he tried to fix it. The story is that the TV was dead totally and he replaced some caps on the power board that were bulged. The set now gets the green light on front when the power button is pushed and I see LED's light up on the main board and I also get 400volts on the main cap but the screen remains black. No flash of the back lights no menu or anything. Not sure what to check next.

Re: Westinghouse Black screen W4207
The wiring harness in your third photo has a number of cut wires. What did those connect to?
Post a photo of the inverter assemblies (covered by metal plate on each side of TV). Are they getting any voltage from the power supply? You should see something like 24V.Last edited by jetadm123; 03-31-2015, 02:41 PM. -
Re: Westinghouse Black screen W4207
I seen those cut wires and the guy swears he did not cut anything and I don't see anyplace they may have gone. The harnesses all look ok and I do not se anything that may have taken a plug. I am getting 24volts at the inverters by the fuse when It's turned on.Comment

Re: Westinghouse Black screen W4207
Are those the original mosfets on each inverter board? Looks like they were re-soldered/replaced?
Try checking the secondary winding resistance of each inverter transformer & compare values.
Also, are any of the pins on the wiring harnesses marked something like BL_ON (also look underneath each board) on the inverter or mainboard?Last edited by jetadm123; 03-31-2015, 04:03 PM.Comment

Re: Westinghouse Black screen W4207
Readings for the windings are about the same. I had a spare bulb and un-pluged each one and tried it. Still no luck but on a couple I got a very short flash on the bulb but only an inch or so coming from the Master side.Comment

Re: Westinghouse Black screen W4207
It needs 24V + BL-ON command signal, and sometime may also need the DIM command signal.
The MASTER/SLAVE Inverter boards setup as push-pull, if the Slave is bad, the lamps will light up half way instead of the whole length of the tube. If the MASTER is bad but the PWM circuits is still function and still send the PWM signals to the Slave, then the lamps will also light up but not at full length.
Right now the lamps did not even try to fire up for the error detection circuit to detect the fault, so you need to find out if you have BL-ON signal or not first, then if the PWM IC is getting the VCC to run.Never stop learning

Re: Westinghouse Black screen W4207
Sounds like it's getting the BL_ON command. Long shot, but try re-seating the wiring harness connectors on both inverters. Also, even though the fuses on both inverters check good, try checking the 4 mosfets on each inverter for shorts.Comment

Hello,
YouTube video of the problem encountered: https://youtube.com/shorts/q7TLNv36LUo
I am a pro and I have a problem that I have never seen despite my 7.5 years of experience on my own and my thousands of repairs, on a customer's Dell G3 15 3500.
On this PC I have already changed the complete palmrest because the keyboard was no longer working properly.
I also changed the screen because the PC fell and the screen was broken.
I changed the battery with a new and original battery.
I also had corrosion/oxidation on the... -

Everything started after modifying BIOS settings to boot UEFI instead of Legacy.
Laptop works fine, i installed windows 10 and drivers/updates, everything works ok(when it works)
The black screen problem is random, maybe 5 out 10 times, laptop remains with the black screen, no image
Symptoms are:

by m1ch43lzmHi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic... -
hello i bought a faulty radeon r9 290 (black screen) to learn to fix gpu's, when it arrived i mesured resistances on 3.3 v and 12v both on the pcie connector and cables i have no idea on how to recognize 1.8v pex and 5v but i checked all inductors and none had a dead short only one was 55 or 140 ohms i don't really remember and i assumed it was memory i installed it on the pc and it delivered no image, not even a backlight so i installed it as a secondary graphics card using the igpu as primary, both device manager and gpu-z only showed the igpu so i assumed it was acutally a no detect even tough...
