      6.CAPACITORS
Capacitors block DC voltages and pass AC voltages. They are used as filters, AC coupling capacitors and as by-pass capacitors.
A capacitors value C (in Farads) is dependent upon the ratio of the charge Q (in Coulombs) divided by the V (in volts).

      When put Capacitors in series
      C=1/(1/C1+1/C2+1/C3.......)

Selling many replacement boards for many TV brands is not the same as selling tester for testing LED.
Look at the cloned Chinese $20 meter you bought, is it Billion dollars?

Why use the scope when you can use the meter instead, all you are doing is measuring the AC Voltage across the cap. The generator can be simple 555.
Lugging around scope and function generator and the calculator?

BTW, there are many details that left out, for examples, the type of capacitors, what to look for in the cap spec, what do those spec of the cap means, what is ESR spec and the impedance spec, etc. You need to know how to read spec sheet to get the correct type of caps for the circuits you are working on but then you need to know what kind of circuits you are dealing with in the first place.
If you want to do education, then you need to provide more info.

'e-recycler' oooo impressive and that's all?
I have been doing volunteer works one day a week since 1995 and we do more than just recycle:
And what do you do to give back to the communities with millions you guy are making to put in your pockets?
Do you send the 'JUNK' to China and India so they can pollute their own countries (most of the so called E-RECYCLE do that, we do not)?
Are we supposed to be impressed by that?
Do you want to brag then read below.

                          http://www.crc.org/about/crc_history.php

                          CRC History
"In 1991 no one had heard the term 'Computer Recycling'"
In 1991 (and before CRC) a Silicon Valley high-tech company was down-sizing and giving up two 20,000 sq. ft. warehouses. These warehouses were packed with computer equipment one and two models old. There was active outreach on the phone for 8 hours a day to schools and nonprofits for the next 2 weeks, informing that these computers were available. Ten years ago no one ever heard the term "Computer Recycling" and there was no immediate response. The warehouses were emptied and a scrap company hauled the stuff away. Our Founders - Wil Marshman , Mark Hass, and Steven Wyatt - were having dinner together, and Mark (who worked for the down-sizing company) suggested starting a program to reuse old computers. Before the end of the evening, the three men committed to starting a nonprofit organization to keep computers out of our landfills, and started the conversation about rerouting computers to schools/ nonprofits. Our first motto was "Reusing Computers to Educate America.
The Computer Recycling Center in California was the first full-service collection, reuse, and refurbishment organization in the USA. In 1992 we received a grant from the David and Lucille Packard Foundation allowing full-time operation, and moved into larger quarters. We are fortunate to receive newspaper, magazine, and TV coverage on a continuing basis. From the beginning CRC was set up as a model, to provide the incubation of ideas and to collect, move, test, refurbish, and re-distribute an avalanche of cast-off computers (different makes, models, in all kinds of conditions, or even in no condition at all!). Here is where we had fun. When you're starting from scratch, something new and exciting for the first time, you have to make it all up! There were no wrong answers, only better ones.
In 1994 we added a training program, became state-licensed, and our courses were state-certified. We worked through the private industry council and the Employment Development Department to provide career training and technical job skills. In 1996 we participated with the State of California "Refurbished computers program". But we still had some problems. One: getting people to accept a "recycled computer"; Two: making sure that businesses would know that our highest priority with used equipment was finding REUSE, and not just "grinding up" or "melting down" the computers. So we started the Computers & Education REuse and donation program. Each of our program names say exactly what we do. Computer Recycling Center™ keeps the items out of the landfill, and Computers & Education refurbishes the computers, and provides community and after school training programs.
In 1998 CRC started supplying the California Department of Corrections with computers to refurbish, and partnered with Joint Venture Silicon Valley's "Smartschools" program. Our new motto is "Reuse the best and recycle the rest™".
At our facilities and programs we give tours, participate in conferences, and we have provided information, thoughts, and ideas to private and government organizations from states in the USA, and countries including Canada, UK, and Japan. Each started successful model programs. We continue to be a full-service organization, keeping in-touch with each area of Computer Recycling and Computer Reuse, and continuing to be an active partner in local community programs.

HDDs...... because the tablet so popular... from 40 employees to close down ....It's a sad story .....I just small guy, I load the stuffs to more upper guy over Phoenix...I don't sell anything to ebay......I do it locally only ......I love junk.....I always think how to reuse them.... specially... like TV back plastic ....nobody want them........gonna have a way to recycle..that...
The commercial damper I ask the city did they recycle them. I been told by one of the truck driver ....He say NO...they drived straight to landfill....and city pay $250 each load to Indian reservations ....That's a shame...

From I heard , CA charge every TV $40 bucks for per-recycling is that true....

If I did what U saying ,which I could,I would make more than what i did now..........need to work.......see U......

Computer Recyclers are not in it for the money. They are in it to help reduce waste and help educate others. Of course they have to make money so they can live. This computer I am using came from Interconnect in Seattle, a recycler. BudM is right that this thread is about LED string testing. It would be good if the other items mentioned in this string could be converted to another thread dealing with those things because if I was a person look for how to test LED strings in a TV I would not have to go all through all of the extra stuff in this thread.

I think you need to get know about tunnel diode:
Tunnel diode – semiconductor diode characterized by a small thickness of the pn junction, a very high concentration of dopants on both sides and a negative dynamic resistance for a certain range of polarizing voltages. It was invented in 1957 by the Japanese physicist Leo Esaki (hence sometimes it can be named Esaki diode). During research on semiconductor junctions he noticed their thus far unprecedented feature based on the tunnel phenomenon. This phenomenon causes charge carriers move through the narrow barrier layer at a very low voltage.
