Re: Panasonics Are Out To Get Me TH-42PZ85U 10 Blinks

Ahhhhh... I see the whole thing now...

    Looks like a healthy project..

But my concern is this. I froze the whole board, cap, chip and all.. If that didn't temp fix the issue I am wondering if replacing the chip is going to repair the issue..

That makes sense.. The ICs are too far gone for freezing to help..

I don't know this helps but I repaired 5 of these tvs in the same problem and I never had a bad IC on any of 'em yet. it never would hurt to try using some heat on that suspect cap. A few of them worked with heat in a few of them worked being frozen so it's kind of a crap shoot but if you have the means I would definitely replace the caps for good measure anyway

Did I leave the soldering iron on?

I've read removing those small caps can also get these running although 10 blink at plug in may not be these modules. i've had the 2 blink at power on and was just the cap on one of those modules.

Board replacement is $150.. Spendy, but if the customer is willing to spring for it...

Another option is the repair kit from SJ....

Although I tend to shy away from repair kits, I had pretty good luck with that option the last time..

I'll give that a shot when I get to the shop...

What you should get is the standard click click from the power supply at plug in. Then no led. When you press the power button you should get an additional click click then a solid red led for a few seconds followed by either a 10 or a 2 blink code repeatedly. This would indicate a failed module. Also remember on these models they have been known to be finicky with the front HDMI port with a computer or a game console shutting down the set with a 10 blink code. This was recoverable by holding the power button for 10 seconds.
Did I leave the soldering iron on?

What I am getting in this case is, at plug-in, a double click, a sec or two pause and then a single fainter click and then the 10-blinks on the power LED.

actually, ignore my remark. just had a refresh of the norcal video and the 10 blink at plug in is clearly mentioned as part of the mc201,301 modules.

Unless you've discovered something totally new, the likely standard fix has been and will continue to be to replace the IC's and the caps. The repair kit is only about 15 bucks. If it doesn't work, I'd try something different.
