    LG 60PV450 plasma burning/melting plastic on z-sustain

I originally had the issue outlined in this thread - Lg 60pv450 colors flashing . I was able to fix it by re-soldering a couple joints on the ERC inductors as suggested by Tom. That worked fine for a few weeks, but this past week I started to notice the smell of burning plastic so I took the back off and discovered a part of the z-sustain sub board was indeed melting. Pic attached.
I've decided to just buy a new z-sustain board (my soldering was poor at best) but am having trouble detaching the copper ribbon in the pic from the melted part. It looks like the melted clip is not all the way un-fastened and I cannot push it in or out due to the melting. Any ideas on how to free it w/o damaging the ribbon?

I would replace that Zsus buffer board too if you didn't already order one. As far as getting the ribbon out, take the zsus out, detach the buffer board and try pulling out the ribbon by moving the free floating board back and forth gently.

Did you take any VZB voltages while it was in this state?

Looks like the Zsus common ribbon was not properly seated and this has caused a lot of heating on the contact surface. How many ribbons does this set use on the Z side?

Maybe get a screwdriver GENTLY in there and use a twisting motion (with board still mounted) to unlock the connector. Hope it's not melted in there or could make the panel toast.

          3 zsus panel ribbons.

If you can get the ribbon loose I would look a the ribbon and if it has burn marks on the copper take a very mild scotchbrite and clean the copper contact
Did I leave the soldering iron on?

From my testing on multiple panels the ribbons are all common to each other both on the Z-sub board and on the panel (that is, if you continuity-meter them, they'll show short.) In theory these panels should work ok with a single ribbon only. But looking at the glass on other panels before, there's very little electrode width connecting them... i.e. a lot of resistance... this could mean that if the other ribbons were loose or poorly seated, one ribbon took the majority of the drive current...

Going to ask an obvious question. You had ALL the Sustain screws in and tight right? You cannot have even one missing or it will cause issues.

to me it looks like his ribbon lock wasn't locked but in the unlocked state.

LG 60PV450 plasma burning/melting plastic on z-sustain, salvagable?
                  by progrmmer
Hi, I have an LG 60PV450 plasma that had a perfect picture but started to smell like it was burning. Took back panel off and saw plastic was all melted on the Z-sustain part that connects to the ribbons cables. Well, now I have the ribbons cables disconnected from the board but as you can see in the pics, one is looking a little rough.

So I have two questions, first, can I even source one of these z-sustain boards anymore? If so, where? Everywhere I've looked just says discontinued. And secondly, is the ribbon cable still usable? I mean, before removing it from the board the TV...

                  Hey....

Board as written in description was stuck at VGA LED. common Problem wit these type of bords.... tried all the "standard stuff" like resettin... reseatin.... found out the LED Controller MCU1 = IT8295FN-56A geting burning hot under the last PCI Slot.. now i desoldered it cause there were only 18 ohms at the caps arround.... another aorus x470 in working condition with similar part and nearly same layout had arround 280 ohms...

my question is: why doesnt the board start know without this chip.... worked myself through the boardview but i can´t understand...

Vaio DA0HK1MB6E0 MBX-247 Burning any EC
                  by ignacio.ino27
                  Hello to all.

I have this Sony Vaio QUANTA HK1 DA0HK1MB6E0 MBX-247 that is burning the NUVOTON EC when you connect it to power supply.

                  1) The +3vpcu line is going to a direct short after connecting the motherboard to power supply.
                  2) I discovered the EC NUVOTON was shorted. After removing it the short gone out on that line (+3vpcu) but... (If i quit the EC the 3.3v are pressent on +3vpcu because the shorted component was quited)
                  3) There were no shorts after soldering the new EC NUVOTON. But after connecting the board to power supply the EC keeps burning...

                  Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

LG 65UQ8000AUB no backlight burning smell
                  by howardc64
Only 3 years old. Owner said backlight went out and burning smell. Didn't bother plugging in to check if had power LED. Just opened the TV rear and found shorted bridge rectifier diode on the backlight circuit on the PSU. SF26G (400V 2A super fast recovery rectifier link ) diode replace with SF26 (what I had on hand) Google AI said G = Green Components.

Burn looked pretty bad on the board but just was blackened carbon coating material. Scraped and cleaned off quite well and clean solder pad for the new diode.
