Panasonic Plasma TX-P50XT50B strange horizontal two lines

    hi all

I finally managed to fix this Panasonic plasma , in the end A board was shorted and keep burning PSU, after two 2 PSS boards and one A board, i managed to start TV.

before I connected new A board and PSS Board , I checked also SN board and C1 and C2 boards, i disconnected all ribbons, after visual check I connected back, tv started normal, I had few horizontal black lines but I reseated all ribbons cables and black lines are gone but something else is there - two thick (brighter than rest of screen) horizontal lines on top and on the bottom, please see picture attached.

anyone knows what's going on, is there setting to be changed in service mode after changing A board ???

have you run a picture through it yet? looks like after image, i think if you use the Tv normally the picture will be fine or go into serv menu and use aging to generate test patterns like full white or scrolling white bar.

A board blowing the PSS, that's interesting.

I connected laptop through HDMI and if you look very carefully you can see different colours in this part of screen, but from close distance.

I went through two PSS boards and I just recalled what tom66 said in other thread that A board can cause problem so I decided to buy A board , but once I connected new A board the old PSS didn't work anymore , bought another one and TV started

Yep looks like burn-in likely from improper aspect ratio setting.

          I had a 50" Panasonic that had image-retention --from a BOSE home-theatre system.

It faded after several hours use, but I did notice that it was still there when the panel was viewed --Outside, In The Sun! while the set was off....

You would have thought an alleged 'quality maker' such as BOSE would have not made a system that would effectively destroy a TV set over time, by using a so-called, 'screen-saver'/splash screen that IR or burns the screens!

--They should have stuck to making speakers with plastic tubes attached, instead of making things that Cause troubles.
--Many years ago, they were the subject of a Consumer Trade issue as they were selling what was effectively just a cheapo transistor radio and their plastic tube speakers in a box (Folded horn)--for many hundreds of pounds--Cheap plastic crap with huge price-tag, mail-order only!

That is not what I mean. The previous owner (whom I assume is not you?) looks to have watched program material with black bars at the top and bottom of the screen for an extended period of time causing what you are seeing now. You can only hope it is retention which will go away eventually because burn will not.

Re: Panasonic Plasma TX-P50XT50B strange horizontal two lines

Image-Retention IR can happen with any age or type TV set, Plasma is more prone than LCD, but LCD can still suffer.

It depends on how bad the IR is as to whether it will fade with time or is permanent.

In the case of my Pan 50" it was fading and getting unnoticable when I sold it. Probably long gone now.

Its a shame that its not that well known, leaving stationary images--particularly very bright or computer/games images stationary on the screen for hours on end will make a lasting record of that image on the panel....

When the Military scrap their monitors, or TV sets --both types, LCD or Plasma-- they destroy the panels to prevent possible data recovery by the unauthorised....

Takes a whole lot less time to burn-in an image than that ! So yes, depending on how it was used and for how long it's extremely possible.

                      Remember:

                      Image Retention = Temporary
                      Image Burn-In = Permanent

I would try exercising the pixels with "snow" and see if it improves.

This last part is fascinating. I believe it was tom66 who had mentioned the sane thing not long ago and I had not heard it until then. I would never have thought to glean info from a used panel but I guess spies might !

Hi. Panasonic has anti image retention function in setting, is called ' scrolling bar'. Is this good enough ?

I'm using it for last 3 days , can't see any difference to be honest

then it's obvious that your panel has suffered a significant amount of use In letterbox format. or whatever the format is called where the top and bottom bars are not used but the middle of the screen is.

what you're seeing is heavily used panel. I had an LG like that once. It was so bad that the middle of the screen that was used Inside of the bars so badly burned that you could see the whites were kind of like a muddy brownish color and there were a lot of sparkles And mal discharge that was not curable but the top and bottom of the screen look perfect

If I put white screen on whole screen I can see TV stations logos.

This TV hasn't been used for 3 months, so can we honestly say this is not image retention but a burn-in ???

it would be interesting to go into serv mode, then serv tool and bring up hrs on use for the TV. It may have been used commercially on the one channel 24/7?

Retention usually only fades when the set is in use, when off it does not fade. I had my Kuro off for over 2 months and it had IR from Windows desktop, the Kuros are pretty good for IR so it faded within a few minutes use.

As for your fault, TBH it looks more like burn in but I'd run it for a few days and see. Sometimes increasing Vsus will hide burn in artefacts.

press 1 to scrool through until srv-tool comes up, hit ok to enter , then use arrows to highlight bottom right box opposite to ptct , then hold mute button on remote until it populates info
