[QUOTE=mmartell;528630]Search "how to test a voltage regulator" and post the info back as per instructions. Assuming of course these are voltage regulators you are talking about. Your coming off as CONDESCENDING, if you think you need to be rude to help, then go be rude to someone else, I don't need it.

You had posted the SJ pic already before on the beginning, so you did not forget. Hi! I'd say follow the video input traces. Usually they go to a main chip. I would think that it generates the OSD display, before it goes out to the LVDS.
Since the TV shows static, can you still change the input, to HDMI or something?

thanks CapLeaker, when I click source the snow changes a little, it makes me think it's responding to the remote, but the snow is so dense, can't make out any image that might be there.

there shouldn't be any snow on the AV or HDMI. Can you upload a pic?

ok I'll put up pic, its snow, I cant tell what the source is because of the heavy snow, but the snow changes a little, with remote clicks, its snow on everything I try with remote or panel buttons.

snow is usually the rf input.

not sure what samsung should display, but not being able to see menu is surely a sign of malfunction, might have to buy a mainboard, tv is 9 years old, thats why I hesitate to buy one.

rf is the tuner where the coax goes on to. Analog produced snow and that is what I thought you meant. Anyway... your pics show some weird combo of snow and it looks like the OSD is trying to display something, but it can't. If you have a oscilloscope, you could check all these little caps for DC ripple. Little ripple who cares, but big ripple creates a problem. If that doesn't yield nothing I would point at that big main chip first or a different IC between it and the LVDS output. But just changing IC's isn't efficient, if you haven't got clean power coming from the SMD caps. Didn't I see a new board for $20 at SJ?

yes I saw one at sj, said 20 bucks, theyr sold out, I bet when they get another in stock it won't be 20, I notice that a lot on the parts selling sites, the ones that are sold out have low prices next to them, but the similar ones in stock are about 4 or 5 times higher, I'm thinking its some kind of strategy they use to get you to come back to their site.

That isn't rf snow. 2nd attached pic is an example of rf snow.

That wasn't meant to be condescending but was meant to get your information in a more concise manner. And you said yourself you *think* they regulate voltage.

But whatever, best of luck to ya.

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                              Assuming...

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

This is my first attempt at troubleshooting a board like this, I know I could just buy a new board but I'm curious to figure out how this works. I've been testing different components in the evenings this week and I think the problem is with the IC failing to start up for some reason. When the board is plugged in there is no standby voltage.

Then today it randomly sprung to life like a zombie but shortly died thereafter. I have no idea why it would have done that and its the first time I've seen it running. I discharged capacitors on the board last night, then it was sitting today....

Hi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic...

I have a 2DS that I am working on that has a problem reading SD cards. It knows that card is in the slot (which, means the detect pin is working anyway) but it says it can’t read the card.

Here is what I have done so far:
-Tried SD card in another 2DS and on PC, works great.
-Tried piggybacking another SD card slot (just so I didn’t have to take the other one off), same issue.
-Compared voltage drop readings from a working 2DS to the faulty one. All reads are very close except one, the 7th pin from the left, with the pins closest to you, which I believe...
