Philips 42PFL9603D No ambilight + diff mobo?

    Hey guys ,

Got a 42PFL9603D that had been sitting here doing nothing for almost 8 months now because of a bad main board. I was not able to find a new main board because they are simply not available.

Last week i found a main board from a 42PFL7403D. It has the same part numbers and all connections are the same EXCEPT 1 connection. ( 1M59 ).
On the original board i have that connector but on the replacement board the connector is gone. ( never was there ).
My problem is that the ambilight is not working. I tried different remote's and i can't find the option in the menu??

As the tv was disassembled for 8 months i now just don't know how to connect the ambilight to the PS. There are not much connectors left on the power supply and i know 1 connector is black , so 1 connector remains left.
My main concern is , do i need the 1M59 to get the ambilight to work on this tv?

In the service manual i find this :

    1M59
    1. SCL-AMBI-3V3 2. GND
    3. SDA-AMBI-3V3 4. GND
    5. GND
    6. +3V3
    7. GND

Can it be that 42PFL7403D uses a different ambilight connection and that thats the reason the connector is not there?

    thx!

It can be turned on or off by the user if they do want the ambilight function?

You mean in the menu? Or remote control? Via rm it does not turn on

You need to enter the correct option codes for this set. There is usually info in the service manual. Option code list will be printed on chassis on a sticker somewhere. Some sequence of 5-20 numbers, 2-3 digits each. You enter them in sequence in some mode and it configures the board for that build variant.

They change everything from the model number in system menu, to TV region, screen type and enable ambilight. You have to enter all of them. It's possible to change them as well from a TV with no picture, but I can't remember exactly how (it's how you can install 720p Philips main board in 1080p TV, even if screen is messed up)

                    Example:

In the picture you provided with the codes and in the service manual they mention "Active SAM". Do they mean the service menu?

Installed the options for this TV ( 9603D ) in the right menu and stored it. Also turned the tv off/on and still no ambilight.

Ambilight dead? Anyway to test this? External power supply?

I checked the service manual and on 1T59 it says i must have +3v3 but i have 0v.
                                    I do have the 25V on 1T90.

Is this a software problem or a hardware problem?

Re: Philips 42PFL9603D No ambilight + diff mobo?

I removed the ambilight from the back cover and there are 2 boards. On the "main" ambilight board which holds all the connectors i noticed that there was 1 connector not used. It has the same connection as the connector thats used for the 2nd ambilight board.

I removed the cable from ambilight board 2 and placed it in the other connector on the ambilight "main" board and the 2nd ambilight board turns on. ( It does not change colour or react to the ambilight on/off button ). Thats probably because its bypassing something?

So that board is working but i still don't know if the other board works or not! Also , why don't i have 3.3v on the PS?
Could this be a software/firmware problem? At first i didn't have the ambilight function in the menu , after changing the option codes i now have the ambilight option BUT when i use service code "123654" the main board is still on "7403D".
Do i need a firmware upgrade to 9603D?

Hope that someone can help me with this last issue!

The 7403D does not have the ambilight , can it be that the mainboard has different hardware even though the numbers are the same?
