    Philips 55PFL6008K/12K Ambilight not working

    Hey,

    ---
I just got the TV mentioned in the title the other day.
Yes, I am well aware of it being a QFU chassis which is very hated - although I love QFUs (maybe for being this bad?), my main TV is a QFU too, and I bought this TV for this very reason.
It had the typical 2 blink error, which was fixed by a proper Fusion CPU reballing, with extra cooling mods. It works.
    ---

Everything is perfectly fine with it, but the Ambilight just won't do anything.
    At all.

Won't work on Dynamic, won't work on Static. Not a single sign on life comes out of the LEDs.

First I checked the SSB for missing components or cold solders, but everything seemed to be fine.
Then I used the internet, and found a typical problem, where the ambilight fuse will blow, and ambilight won't work at all (like in my case).

I checked the fuse, but it's fine, and has 12V on both sides.

After that, I took a look at the connections.
This is how the ambilight is connected:

First, from the SSB goes a cable to the WIFI/IR module.
From that, a cable connects to one of the ambilight sides.
And from that ambilight side, an identical cable connects to the other side ambilight.

Between the SSB and Wifi module, the cable is perfect.

Between the Wifi module and right side ambilight, the cable had a few loose pins, but these are redundant ones, so it even if they were missing, would be still fine. (However, I tried it with an identical cable, and still doesn't work with that one either.)

Between the 2 sides of ambilight, the cable is perfect.

    ---

    What I tried:
    • try cables to rule out cable problems, no success.
    • tried to plug only the other side of the ambilight led strips on, to rule out a bad primary led strip. No progress.
    • measured the voltages on +12V-AMBI and +3V3-AMBI, they are present. (for reference, check the qfu1.2e_la pdf file, page 190)

    ---

    My question is:
    What am I missing?
    What could be the problem?
    What exactly control the LEDs?
    ---

Thanks in advance, if you have an idea!

Re: Philips 55PFL6008K/12K Ambilight not working

    Try this,

There are 2 different brands of ICs used to control ambilight:

    1.TI (Texas Instruments)
    2. AMS (austria microsystems)

There are 2 different upg files for TI or AMS.
Place these files in the upgrades folder and try which one

( Take a thumbdrive and format it 32FAT, than create a folder called UPGRADES.)

      Dear William,

      Thank you for your answer.
The AL strips both have AMS1122 on them, and put the upg file in the folder accordingly.

      Unfortunately that didn't work either.

I also checked the resistors on the strips themselves, and they have +12V and +3V on them, so supply voltages are not problematic.

I saw that there are other lines on this cable, which are most likely the control signals, but my knowledge ends there, don't know what and how should be measured.

I am not certain its not a LED strip problem, but I don't know if both strips would die at the same time.

        Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

        PHILIPS 32PHS5505 side board problem
        by jboxer
hi, im working on a Philips tv that works good, mainboard good, backlight good but the side board that control the lcd panel don't work good, in first time it only worked when I touched the board in a specific point that was very hot, I think it was a short-circuit and when I touched it my hand worked like dissipator, I had found that the source was a resistance so when I eliminate it there wasn't a short-circuit anymore but still without image only color lines when I touch the new resistance wit a metalic thing and it sparks, where can be the problem? lasts image are a close up of the board(ins't...

T-con suspect issue. Both ribbon cables no picture. One ribbon cable ok. (58pus8545)
        by Tr0ll
Hi guys! I realized you have a lot of knowledge here so i am hoping you could point me in right direction with my odd issue.

The Tv is a Philips 58PUS8545/12, it had no picture but working backlights.

        Original T-con:
Opened the Tv and tested to unplug one ribbon cable at a time. With this test i could see that i got fine picture on both halves as long as there was only one ribbon cable connected, with two connected picture were gone.

        First replacement T-con:

I thought it might be t-con and ordered new t-con from china(supposedly tested)...

Nvidia Tesla P40 (Q0V80A) Enterprise GPU, I put the power cable on backwards.
        by olliec420
Ok I screwed up big time and hoping I can fix. I will break down what happened and the images.
        • Have Dell PowerEdge R730
        • Bought Tesla P40
        • Researched power cables and order correct one, pic had two black connectors in photos
        • Power cable arrived, same connectors (EPS-12v) on both ends
Both sides are the same plug but different colors. The listing stated that colors would be random. OK I plug it in, red side to riser board, black side to GPU.
        • Power on.
        • System immediately turns off.
        • I only had 1 PSU plugged in and it was blinking orange, I thought I drew too much so I plugged in
