My issue is no picture. When turning on the TV, the screen will show the VIZIO logo on the screen, but will immediately go black. The LED back light seems to die suddenly. I tried the flashlight trick, but no picture is being shown that I could see. I have sound, the led indicator light on the front is working. I took the back off and looked for bulging caps or burn marks, but there are no signs of damaged parts. I have not checked any voltages from the power supply yet, but I intend too when I get time. I believe the LED Driver board is built into the power supply, so could that be the culprit? Any help and advice is welcome. Thanks

Re: VIZIO E500i-A0 No Picture With Sound
If one or more of the led's failed, then PSU will sense problem and shut down B/light circuit. Or a short in the wiring.
I'm working on a Westinghouse that has three bad led's on one strip. PSU shuts down B/light circuit but not the other voltages. So it still has sound and pic, just cant see it.
Edit I've tried the flashlight trick, didn't seem to work for me. Now I use a 250 watt halogen lamp if it's got a picture then I can see it.Last edited by MagicSmoke; 02-10-2015, 07:29 PM.

Check the DC Voltages on the LED+ pins of that 4-pin connector when you first turn on the TV to see if there is any LED drive Voltage on the pins.
That section of the board looks like it got hot.
There are two large electrolytics caps (c??4), what are their Voltage ratings? I believe they are the filter caps for the boosted voltage power supply for the LEDs.Never stop learning

Re: VIZIO E500i-A0 No Picture With Sound
That sounds like you have open LEDs that is why the Voltage went up high (no load due to open LED) and then it goes into protection mode.Never stop learning

Re: VIZIO E500i-A0 No Picture With Sound
It depends on how the panel is put together, definitely not for beginner.
Once you get to the LED assemblies then you will test one by one or you may be able to see the bad one that has sign of over heating.
Failed LEDs are very common for these LED backlghts TV, it is so sad that they do want to build something that last any more.Never stop learning

Re: VIZIO E500i-A0 No Picture With Sound
Taking the panel apart and then reassembling it requires a lot of patience, otherwise it will crack.
Some like the westinghouse I just fixed use the front bezel to hold the panel to the chassis. If I had not looked and been cautious then the panel would have slid out and cracked. The 39" panel was all I wanted to handle by myself, I would not try a 50" without good help.
Some hold in with plastic strips, I'm sure there are a lot of variations.
The 2nd main thing is to be careful of the tabs bonded to the panel, any damage or dislocation renders panel inoperative.
It can be done, replacing individual led's on the strips is not easy, it is much simpler just to replace the bad strip/s.
And it's not just the bargain TV's doing it, some of the high end Samsungs, Vizio's and others have similar problems.
It looks like you can try to jumper the PS-on and BL-on to 5v Stby to see if B/light will stay on or still shuts off. If it stays on then might be eeprom related but if it shuts off then led's are bad or similar fault.Last edited by MagicSmoke; 02-20-2015, 08:18 PM.

Re: VIZIO E500i-A0 No Picture With Sound
With my TV plugged in and powered on I get a rolling 120-130volts at both LED+, if I unplug the backlights the voltage doesn't change so I can only assume the backlights are shot, any input? with the backlights plugged in they strobe every 2 seconds or so.
