    LG 55LM6200 no Stby 3.5vdc caused by North Korea

    Ok folks....as it says in the title.....I'm suspecting that North Korea killed my TV. We were watching "The Interview" on New Years day and not 15 min after completing the movie.....the TV went black. What really sux is that the movie did not live up to the hype at all......so why did you do this to me North Korea??

    Anyway...back to the issue

    I checked the Power board and found that C603 was burned beyond recognition. The board is a EAY 62512801 Rev 1.0. I downloaded the service manual however it does not have a schematic of the power board. There was a post recently by Sniper 82 with a similar board out of a 47LS4500. Just a visual of that board shows the same circuit with what look like the same components. I would be very appreciative if someone could identify this cap for me. I know its a ceramic disc...probably 220pF at 1KV but thats just a guess judging at whats around it. I havent done any further troubleshooting based on finding this cap in its current condition but if any of you gurus can give me an idea of what might have caused it to go.       Notice that the electrolytic caps in your TV is made by Samyoung, a South Korean manufacturer.

        You might want to check to see if Q601 (the transistor on the heatsink) and Q602 are shorted. In addition, see if D607 is shorted.

        Since the board is flat and pretty easy to access, you might as well check all the components on the hotside to see if the usual suspects like the bridge rectifier, diodes, SMPS IC are shorted.

          BTW, what is the value of C614 (right next to the two green resistors R601, R602)?

            I was going to look at those. The traces go to one side of the transformer nearest these two transistors and the two bridge rectifiers. I cant seem to cross reference this transformer (inductor or current transformer?). Of course I left my meter at home so no checking till tomorrow...

              C614 is a 220pF cap. Thats what led me to suspect that the damaged cap is the same value.

                  If you can show a clear focused picture of the backside of that area, you can trace it out and it will probably be the same circuit which means 220pF is likely a good guess.

                    BTW, I made some edits in my previous posts regarding the pcb designation based on clear focused high resolution pictures I found here. In your pictures, it was difficult to read them.

                      That C603 cap is the snubber cap for D607, so check MOFSETs as retiredcaps suggested.
                      That section of the circuit is the PFC Voltage booster, it it is working the Voltage on the main filter cap should go up from 160VDC to >360VDC.
                      220pF 1KV or higher will be fine, I would go higher Voltage.

                          OK....so still no Stby voltage......nothing on the LV side of the board. I measure 169vdc across the big filter caps. I've checked (replaced) most of the PFC circuit components....the bad cap, the two FET's (18NM60N) the MUR 460G, even the two Bridges...still no joy.

                          I just ordered a replacement power board off EBAY but I'm still energetic about fixing this board. What do you all think?

                            Quick update....I replaced the power board and all is well. Found a newish board pulled out of a cracked module on ebay. $70 with free shipping and now I'll be able to watch The Military Channel or a movie during the Super Bowl! Screw You North Korea! You're efforts to destroy my tv were as lame as that awful movie....

                                Thanks for this website. D607 and C603 replacement on power board fixed an LG 55LS4600 from a 3-blink error code state.

                                  I also completed the same repair to the C603 cap which closely resembled pictures posted by Castlebravo. I also followed your repair and replaced the D607 diode for good measure. The TV was a 6 year old LG Model 55LS4600 with the same model EAY 62512801 power board.

                                  All totaled the repair cost 50 cents for the 220PF 1KV and 90 cents for the MUR460 Diode.

                                  So far so good the TV came back to life. This site and particularly this thread was instrumental in helping me complete the repair. Much appreciated.
