Panasonic Viera TC-P50GT50 one blink error

    Hi:

Before anything, thanks for all the help I could get with this. I have almost no previous experience with TVs, but I have some basic electronics knowledge. Some background with this TV: A cat did some "mischief" on the grid that covers the A board; I took it to a service center and they charged me around $200 for (and I'm pretty sure of this) basically clean the board, but the failure presented itself again three days after (I do not remember the number of blinks). So I decided to open it, take the board and sprayed (bathed) it with contact cleaner and compressed air; after this the TV worked perfectly... until this time.

Again, it seems another cat did its thing on the same place (we have many cats); I checked the zone but didn't see any "liquid" so I turned the TV on and it worked (it was late at night). Next day, after plugging it and trying to turn it on, the TV showed the one blink error. I did the same procedure as before (clean the board), but the error persisted. I searched about this, and came to two conclusions:
    1. It's a nondescript error, and/or
    2. It's an A board failure.

I managed to get a replacement (TNPH0988-1-A, very hard to come by, had to import it from USA (broken screen); I don't care about the digital tuner, DirecTV at home). Also the service manual is almost nonexistent for this specific model, I just managed to find the SM for the bigger sized model of the series (TC-P60GT50, uploaded for anybody who may need it; the most interesting things about it are the block diagrams, no troubleshooting info). What I need to know now is:
    1. How do I test that the other boards are OK? I checked them visually and there was no sign of "liquid" damage.
    2. The SM says something about regenerating a key that should be done when changing the A board, and also mentions something about Vsus calibration.

I also hope that the board suffix (check the images) doesn't kill my hopes of fixing this TV. Thanks again for your help.

those boards are too sensitive to be exposed to any liquids, I would hang it on a wall, up above the cats.

I think my household would be short two cats if it were me.

more than likely the cat p1ss ruined the main board, again, theyre just too expensive to replace every week.

Yeah, we had it on a table with some space behind it... now the new TV is on a wall rack with extensible arm...

if you want to troubleshoot, maybe grab a manual, check the posts at the top of the list called stickies, for the link.

Come on, let's not take the piss out of this one
I was thinking more along the lines of a pussy challenge. Remove the back cover, hopefully it can't get there or better still, it gets
I don't mind cats, I love my TV more though.

So your original was TNPH0988UA, and you replaced with a 60", display may end up wrong.

The only manual I got (and trust me, I know my ways in searching for a document) is the same one at Electrotanya, the one I posted. No troubleshooting info.

Negative... Attached is a pic from the original board... I also checked at shopjimmy and hdtvparts, they don't have listed the same exact board... That's why I waited until one from the very same TV appeared in ebay; same code, but different suffix (check the first post). The one I bought I suppose uses the ATSC standard for digital TV (USA origin), mine uses ISDB-Tb; apart from that, I don't see any difference.

yeah, I'm having trouble working out the suffixs with the new legend. It is possible to convert it to your standard. Just have to work out which eeprom has the tuning data.

I had to do the same thing for one of mine. Got a 50" board from New Zealand and then went about swapping the eeproms and flash ICs to convert it back to original.

So what is the exact model of your Tv?

TNPH0988 (1) A is not the revision of your board, more to do with the blank PCB

TC-P50GT50...The GT50 series are (according to the user manual and Panasonic site) about the same in functions and capabilities, the only difference being the screen size. As I said, I don't care much about the digital TV tuner, as I use it with a DirecTV receiver. What I'd like to know is how to test the other boards before plugging the new one... Thanks in advance.

A bit tricky but since it's going 1 blink I would say good chance they are fine. What i've found on a different model is the 1 blink is probably the last part of the detection. I had a TV which had, 10, 4, 6,7 . Then 1 blink. the 1 blink did not show up until everything else was fixed.(corrupted EEPROM)

i would just hook the new board up, there's nothing really that is going to damage the A board even if they are bad it will just produce a error blink.

OK, thanks tw2005; I'll try to do it this weekend, with the upcoming holidays it will be almost impossible to get anything done quietly. I'd like to try that of converting to the local TV standard, if I had the time (and if the TV works, the will to do it).

About the calibrations and Vsus adjustment mentioned in the service manual, is it really necessary to do them? I know by your posts (and tom66 ones) that you're one of the gurus here

Also, for anyone who has a Panasonic device (be it camera, TV, DVD, etc.), try this Google search:

                                    https://www.google.com.pe/search?q=*...nasonic-la.com

I've found many interesting manuals here in search of the one of my plasma set, I hope this can help people reduce the time to find a specific manual (of course, if tom66 does not have them already... )

If it's from the same model / panel i don't think you'll need to adjust anything really. They no longer give panel voltage data and in the A board you have vsus high/low as options. if it looks ok when it's running, i'd just leave it , the PSU voltages are preset and sealed.

i know how to fix em, not much to do with tweaking.

We'd need manuals to maybe figure out which chip to change. Will be a 8 pin SOP but there are a few. Some times they are marked either with a sticker or imprint. If you have a close look at them see if you can find what versions are on yours then compare to the new board may spot the difference there.
