Sony KDL-46XBR2 no sound,backlight, or picture just green light

I have a Sony KDL-46XBR2 that will turn on and I get the green power light. but I don't have sound or picture or backlight. I have tried the flashlight and can't see anything. not sure where to start to troubleshoot.

be careful when checking power supply aka g board, HIGH VOLTAGE, I have a kdl-46s4100 with same problem, with power off, try unplugging the plug on power supply on mine its cn303 it's labeled bl-on, then turn tv on, backlight should go on.

I found another post with the same model TV and same problem. I was told to check the fuse on the T-Con. I tested the fuse and it was bad. replaced fuse and now the TV works again.

Why did the fuse blow? Will it happen again?

Not sure why the fuse blew. The tip I got was to replace the fuse if it was bad so I did. I did check for shorts and didn't find any.

NICE, I have same problem but my tcon fuse is good, congrats on the fix.

Where *is* the T-Con board? Is it embedded in the panel? The service manual doesn't mention it at all, and I stopped disassembly at the chassis frame level, without taking anything off the panel itself. Mine also has a black screen, no audio (now that we've lost input source by experimenting with the remote to get the picture back), but nice solid green power light and Sony logo light. I acquired another KDL-46XBR2 on CL, and its only apparent problem was impressive screen-wide spiderweb cracks in the display that you see only when the CCFLs come on (two clear pressure points on the front of the screen caused this, looks like). I swapped out the AU, G1, D1, D3, QT, QM, and BE2 boards with no change. The remote test sequence (Display, 5, VOL-, PWR) produces no visible effect when the unit is on (but it doesn't power off the unit, so I assume that both of the BE2s are working OK).

Is a T-Con swap a reasonable thing to try? I can blindly proceed to strip the back of the panel assembly where the big heat sink w/fins is located - I assume that the T-Con board is under that heat sink, although the sink itself is mounted to the chassis frame (which sits on, but isn't part of, the panel). I see T-Cons listed on ebay for this model, so I assume it is removable without destroying the panel. Any guidance here?

Thanks! I'll give it a shot. I'm getting really proficient at taking this thing apart and putting it back together.

I wonder if I should also swap out the inverter boards at the same time, while I have everything apart?

I checked fuse F1 on the old T-Con and it is open. I don't know why it blew, but I figured it would be one of three causes:

1. The T-Con itself failed
2. The BE-2 board failed at the LVDS interface, taking down the T-Con too.
3. The panel failed, taking down the T-Con too.

The T-Con and BE-2 replacements came out of a working KDL-46XBR2 with a physically damaged LCD screen, so if the fix didn't work, then the panel would be the culprit, and at $2005 + another $2359 core charge, that replacement won't be happening. Does Sony even stock those parts at such a ridiculous price any more? I can't believe anyone would pay that much.

Replacing the T-Con board did the trick, and the TV is working fine now. I located and downloaded the Sony Training Manual from manual-archives.com. It's titled "Sony KDL-46XBR2 Training Manual FIX Direct-View LCD Television Chassis". It saved me a lot of steps to get at the T-Con, although Sony claims the T-Con board is not a "replaceable part", and must be purchased as part of the panel. It also has setup and diagnostics instructions to test and adjust the set, as well as all the troubleshooting flowcharts for different symptoms and voltages at testpoints.

How do I take out the tcon board, it's underneath the big frame with boards on top..

what I did was remove some of the screws to the frame and then I was able to lift the frame just enough to un screw the t-con cover.

Thank you for the reply. Now I lifted up a bit of frame and got to the tcon board just like you said. Now how do i lift the tcon board? It seems that it's stuck or it won't lift in the middle. Did you buy a new tcon board or just replace the fused? I ohm check the fuse and f1 and f2 are open.
