OLEVIA 232-S13 black screen slowly fades to vertical colored bars

never seen this brand before in my life. have you?
when i plug in the tv, i get a blue standby light on the power switch.
pushing that, the blue light goes away and i see the backlight come on but the screen is black. then slowly, over about a minute or two an image fades in / lights up of colored vertical bars.

so what is it? TCON, Mainboard, or Panel?

i havent gone as far as measuring voltages yet, wanted to get some gut feelings from the crowd first, maybe take some bets

        Do the bars move around?

Re: OLEVIA 232-S13 black screen slowly fades to vertical colored bars

Olevia made some good stuff back in the early 480-720p monitor days. I have had a few they are pretty well built.

this is an ATI boosted display, my guess it would be a mainboard as the ATI Panel mainboards failed quite a bit on these and Westinghouse panels.

Dissconnect the T-con from the Main and see what happens, also disconnect the left/right TFT ribbons from the t-con and see what shows up on the blank side of the screen.

I have yet to see a panel failure with an Olevia but it might be possible!

I get no sound (using the usual n64 test, turning volume up a bunch and pressing source as many times as i could bear) so I'm leaning towards motherboard. I disconnected the tcon and just got a black backlit screen...the tcon is hard to get to so I haven't tried disconnecting one side at a time from the panel yet...

Hard to see whats going on as the picture is so close, but the first one looks like a possible bad panel.

Can you get a distance shot?

                      ok heres the pictures
                      1. both cables connected
                      2. left side disconnected
                      3. left side disconnected
                      4. both cables connected again (left side looks different than in pic 1?)
                      5. right side disconnected, left side is also "moving slightly"

so whats it look like? i already know i have a motherboard problem because i cant get any sound to come out when i switch sources...

starting to feel like i got a lemon on my hands here

Good luck - mainboards are notoriously hard to fix. Check the voltage regulators if any and fuses if any then try heating the main ic with a hairdryer see if anything changes. Beyond that if nothing is visibly wrong then there isn't much you can do.

Yea I just realized this tv has too much screen damage to be worth buying a new main board...guess ill part it out but I can only be sure the psu and inverter are good...

i decided to buy the mainboard anyway since it was cheap ... now i get sound when i change source but i just get a completely black backlit screen....
is it possible i had a bad motherboard AND tcon?
or is it possible that this motherboard is bad...
how do i tell? because if its bad i only have 14 days to return it

                                          Hello everyone,

I have this 55" LG 55LF652V-ZA smart TV which suddenly started flashing intermittently every 2 seconds with the backlight.

If I aimed the light bulb of my cell phone I could see the underlying image even in those fractions of time when the LEDs were off and the audio instead came out continuously.

Armed with a lot of space and patience, I decided to open the TV, immediately noticing that a LED had flamed out and also burned a portion of that reflective white panel behind the transparent LED diffusers.
                                          ...

                                          Hi all,

I came across this thread last week where another user had a fix for my original problem of a power-cycling TV. I identified and removed some burnt-out resistors, after which the TV no longer power cycles, but now displays vertical colored lines down parts of the screen. There's also a green-colored "cloud" near the bottom-right when using the replacement mainboard.

I see these lines whether I'm using my original mainboard or the refurb I got from an online parts store, just in differing amounts/screen-space....

I posted about this previously but didn't get any response, and I have some troubleshooted a bit so I have more info.

The screen is full of horizontal "gaps" or lines that distort the picture badly, and after about 10 seconds of powering it on the screen starts to fill with red vertical bars that take on the horizontal pattern. LG 65UQ70 horizontal bars jumping

So I bought this LG 65UQ70 today at Walliworld. Put the wall mount on, set it up, worked for 30 mins and then I get these jumping horizontal bars. Let the TV do updates and let it cool down for 5 mins. Worked perfect for 2 mins. As soon the TV is warm I get the jumping vertical bars again.
