No luck with the TCON only - I get nothing on the screen - BL is on and 12 V to TCON. I got a replacement TCON, same result. Likely panel is toast? what are the chances the main board is bad?Comment

I had an LG 50" TV with similar issue a few years ago. Top 25% was perfect, and lower 75% had intermittent perfect image with horizontal tearing every second or so.
I disconnected the LHS and RHS lower panel buffer boards independently from the TCON during testing but cannot recall the result. I was ready to toss the TV due to a panel problem when I discovered the scotch tape fix which works by masking some of the clock lines on the ribbon cables between the TCON board and the panel buffer boards.
My TV was fixed. with clear scotch tape. It had very similar display problem to yours with some of it being perfect/unaffected, and other areas of the screen having lines, or loss of resolution, or flickering.
I can't say it will help your TV since you say the lines are same whether LHS or RHS is disconnected from TCON, but my TV with similar problem had a panel issue. I would not spend money on a new TCON since I don't think it is your issue.Comment

Just bought this for 10 bucks yesterday hoping to fix it. The guy said water dropped inside from a dehumidifier hose and it started showing black and white vertical bars then went blank. When I got it home and turned it on it came on fine and displayed correctly but I was noticing faint vertical bars in the image. After a little bit I turned it off and back on and it was a black screen again. I opened it up to check for water damage and corrosion but didn't find anything of the sort. I have a Sharp LC-46D85UN TV that has had a main board issue. Since this model is from 2009, I am not able to find an exact replacement of the main board. Instead, I decided to see if I can future proof this tv by getting a Universal Main Board (T53U21.2) from China to work with the Sharp TCON (CPWBX4291TPZA) and panel. The universal main board supports a 8 bit dual channel LVDS interface whereas the TCON requires a 10 bit dual channel LVDS input. I have modded the LVDS connector to match... -
Ok.. this is the story:
Have an old Samsung LED 3D TV (UE55F6475). First it started to lose light on the lower 40% of the screen now and then. Like for 10-60 mins and then it would work again. Then a bit later it just got stuck in that position. The lower 40% of the screen is dark, and it gets progressively darker the lower u go so it's obviously that LED strips where not working. I also looked for similar errors online and saw an exact copy and on that one it was faulty LED strips.

This TV was auto switching off after few seconds with some vertical lines on the screen, so got a new TCON board and replaced it.
After replacing the TCON board it was working fine and i set it up with everything, used for few hours, then had the bright idea to update the software on it. During the update process, TV switched off and now no audio or video. No relay switch sound.

I've recently been given a Sony 8k Z8H. It's got a white screen with two vertical black bars. At times it's given me the 5 blink Tcon code. Testing voltage on the Tcon I can see some low or missing voltage. I've done a basic visual check of cables and the COF. Not seeing anything obvious. The original Tcon seemed to have good caps until turning it over. On the bottom I found maybe 10 caps with both sides of the caps shorting to ground.
