Stubborn troubles, ready to give up

Anyone on here about ready to give up? I'm at wits end on at least 8 tv's in my possession. Replacing boards and chips and nothing is working. I'm about ready to give up on this hobby.

maybe sometimes it's a case of picking your battles. probably why I tried to sus out the fault and models looking for common faults, parts availability, manuals, cost, etc.

I was selective with what i purchased to fix. Do all these have threads started ?

When things get tough, move on to something easier, give it a break even. not every project is going to be a winner, that's the game really.

I just fixed one that I'd given up on, laying around for 12 months, then someone offered a tip and it worked. patience

Re: Stubborn troubles, ready to give up

I too have been thinking of giving up and I really just started. Have had a few wins in recent past, but now I have three about to make me give up.

My problem is trying to do too much at one time and taking in whatever I can find for free or really cheap.

Even though I am discouraged, I am still learning at the same time. Pick one project at a time, do your homework, and stay away from brands you now know are junk.

Like everyone else is saying, walk away and and come back later with a fresh point of view.

Now, if I will just listen to myself...

I've been doing this for about two to three years now, it all feels completely alien at first but the more Tvs you have ago at, the easier it can become. I've had a few just sitting around doing nothing over the time but as time goes on I pick one and have ago again, sometimes stimulated by what I may read here or hoping to be able to apply the new knowledge gained from past successes. Sometimes I sit back because of cost hoping to get a cheap Tv, maybe at a carboot sale or even given one(happened a few times and just recently, my LE32R88BDX) or it's because I get genuinely beat so yet again just wait until I'm better prepared, skills, equipment, methods etc, so don't give up, it is a patience game and time will be on your side.

I'm thinking of giving up on some of the sets I have....

Got 2 Panasonics, a Vestel, and a couple of others...

The Pans,--Both of 'em need Mainboards, Both the Same Type 'TNPH0711' and Stupid Money to buy from ebay at £90 or £40 for one that the HDMI doesnt work on, when I could only sell a working set for £120--doesnt seem worth it, Only hang onto 'em in case another comes along.
Probably break 'em for more than that.

The Vestel has weird fault convinced the T-con but cant warrant buying Another t-con for it seeing the first supplier doesn't seem to want to take the first back. Tried 3 working mainboards in that set.....

I dunno--Must be the season for hideous problem sets!

If its just a hobby and you have the space have a rest then go back to it. If you have known good panels try and buy/acquire sets that are said to work but have broken panels. Use what you know/ have learned to try and help others on here and you never know something might crop up that helps you fix one of yours, even though its another make. It is quite rewarding and doesnt make a mess!.
As TW2002 says pick your battles. I havent seen any Emerson with an easy fix their boards seem to have mind /system of their own.

I have to agree with you all. I think I take on too many at one time and lose track instead on focusing on one issue. Sitting with a Toshiba that I cannot for a board for. An LG that I cannot find a LVDS cable for. 2 Samsungs with some weird pixel trouble, another Toshiba that needs a power supply, since I changed the 3 ic's with the repair kit and still no go. And a couple of other no name brands. I think I'm going to have to just beat up on one of them until it's fixed or until it goes to the dump. I have to learn patience.

I have about 60 tv's around me here, some with cracked panels, some I couldn't figure out yet or need a costly mainboard for and some i just haven't even looked at.
I put one on my work bench and if I can't figure it out or tried and ended with a smoke show or need a part for,I just put a label on it with my findings so far and then set it aside.
Makes it fun, cause sometimes I run into one I didn't even know I had lol
If you have the room, just set them aside, fix a couple new ones for the glorious reward and confidence in yourself and just come back to them later

Yes, I think we all become frustrated at one time or another. But at the same time my house is fully stocked with flat TVs, I also just stocked a vacation rental with 4 more TVs I had in the garage. I made a deal with my local recycler and I get all the flat panel TVs that come in. I can usually exchage one at the dump when I go as well. Most have damaged screens but I seem to get at least 1 a month with a good screen and a pretty easy fix. When I get frustrated with one I put it on the shelf for a month or two, sometimes just coming back with a fresh perspective is all it takes. I fixed a camera last week I failed to fix last year when I first tried. That said I currently have 3 TVs on the shelf that have stymied my attempts to repair them. And 2 more awaiting the arrived of a donor TV or some less than new TV priced boards. Probably have 25-30 parts TVs with damaged screens in the shop waiting for a compatible fixable TV to come in. One of the days I will dismantle them all and make a database so I can find them when I need them.

Re: Stubborn troubles, ready to give up

I'm stuck with quite a few and have limited space. Damn Vestel's with firmware issues, another cheapo 42 LCD with a software problem and no hope of an update, a broken screen 42 inch LG (and the panel in the cheapo set doesn't suit). Even trying to restore an old 405 line set from 1958 and the LOPTX is dead (which apparently was extremely rare on that model so no hope of a replacement there).

My living room is a mess, the bedroom wardrobe full of TV's and bits. I've thought about dumping them or parting them out but I can't bring myself without knowing first that I've done all I can.

I'm starting to find that the overall cost is sometimes more than I can sell the set for, it always seems to start out ok then different problems crop up, like that 42 LCD that was just bad caps, then I discovered the audio out of sync on DVB, I suspect it was always that way and was used with external sources, which means I'm screwed. I can't sell things I know are faulty.
