Philips Model 30PF9946D/37 Chassis # LC4.6U AA Backlight Problem

    Guys,

When I power up my TV, the picture & sound are fine. After about 1-2 minutes, the screen goes black, yet I have sound on all channels but a black screen on all channels....

I have replaced the the backlight inverter board to no avail. Same thing happens with new board in...actually a used board from ( www.myshoptvs.com )
However, with their board in, the backlight flashes briefly & then goes dark after a couple of seconds on power up.....

The power to the TV remains...green light is steady......

Seems I have a power supply board issue or a problem with the standby/audio board...but I am only guessing.....

I have access to the service manual for the chassis LC4.6U AA.....

Any leads on troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated.....

Thanks for your support in advance......

Re: Philips Model 30PF9946D/37 Chassis # LC4.6U AA Backlight Problem

Any suggestions for a newbie....??? Not even....."take it to a repair shop" or "buy another TV"......lol......

So anyway, i took it up to a local repair shop yesterday 2 blocks away....I went into the shop & asked as to the progress...he indicated it was my inverter board.....I indicated to him that I had replaced it with one bought off the internet, & that board performed worse....shut off after 2 seconds.....he argued that it may have been the wrong board I bought......I indicated it was the exact same board....proved it to him by showing it to him...he became quiet then about it being the inverter board and then said that he was ordering some parts for the power supply at the component level. So we will see what he comes up with.....his initial charge was $40 up front for troubleshooting....

So does anyone have any suggestions. I know someone out there has time on these models...common problem from what I have seen here.....

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated....

    Jeff

      could be the backlight tubes.

search a bit - there are lot's of threads about testing invertors and tubes.

There should be a Backlight or inverter on comand from the main board. There also may be a Dim comand too. Check these while the set is working and after the backlights drop out. A bad bulb may be drawing too much current causing the power supply to shut down power to the inverter. Do you still have 24vdc to inverter?

Hi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic...

          Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

Philips 65PUS8518/12 distorted image after main board replacement
          by tuner2000i
          hello everyone,

I don't normally do tv repairs but this is a case with my personal TV which got fried together with many other electronics in my house after a thunderstorm.

The TV is a Philips 65PUS8518/12 which had no power. I measured and concluded that the main board was probably fried through ethernet or hdmi. I found a board with same number 715GD328-M0F-B00-005Y (I had G) but from a 55PUS8518. The TV starts but the image is doubled, distorted. I need to set the panel code which is 016 according to the sticker on the back but I can not seem to do it.
