Sony KDL-46V2500 / Blown HDMI Port from surge

There was a lightning strike very close to our house and it took out one of the two HDMI ports on this TV. The other HDMI port (and other ports) seem to work just fine. The part below is compatible with both the KDL-40V2500 and KDL-46V2500 and has the HDMI inputs on the board. Since the TV is working correctly other than the blown HDMI port, is this the only part you would expect that needs replacing?

Should do if everything else works.

But you might be able to fix it, might just be open components in the HDMI input signal lines, or shorted TVS diodes etc.

Re: Sony KDL-46V2500 / Blown HDMI Port from surge

I got the replacement main board on Friday and tried installing it that night. Unfortunately it is not working. All I get is the power button initially showing a green color when you turn it on but it soon turns into a red standby light and I can't do anything more.

I'm thinking 2 possible scenarios as to what the issue is.

      1) I believe the replacement board was from the 40-inch version (KDL-40V2500). There is no firmware update on the Sony site. Also, this TV doesn't have a network or USB plug so perhaps this is why Sony doesn't have any updated firmware. Does anyone know if there would be an issue trying to use a 40-inch model mainboard in a 46-inch TV. In other word, is there any difference between the firmware. Most places seem to list them as interchangeable.

      2) Maybe the replacement board is bad. I made sure all of the connectors were plugged in when trying the new board. I put the original board back in and it works (except 1 0f the 2 HDMI ports does not work - which is what I was trying to fix by replacing the main board).

      Any thoughts?

Ask the TVpartsguy ideally you should have asked before you bought it.
Tell him it doesnt seem to work and see what he says "pulls" are not always

I took a closer look at the replacement board. Please see the pictures below.

There is is what looks to be burnt spot on the back side of where the HDMI connector is. I didn't inspect the unit that closely before installing it so I can only assume it was there from the start. Does that brown spot look like something might have been repaired? See this picture: http://i944.photobucket.com/albums/a...ackCloseup.jpg

Also, when this item was packed for shipping there was a power supply board on the bottom and this main board was on top of it with absolutely no padding between them. There was padding in the bottom of the box and on top but no cushioning in between them. So perhaps the main board got damaged. I say this because one of the capacitors on the bottom looks to be loose while the other ones of the same type are nice and snug on the board. If that capacitor is not firmly soldered in would you expect that to stop it from working all together or just not operate reliably? Here is picture: http://i944.photobucket.com/albums/a...rdLooseCap.jpg (Update: When I put it back in the electrostatic bag the loose capacitor came all the way off)

Just to clarify, I didn't buy it from that store. I was simply linking to their picture. I bought it from TriState Module

I see a someone re-solder the HDMI connector and there is a missing cap. very poor shipping. I don't like "free shipping" people will do poor packing to save money. This is the end result.

Wow. Nice catch. I'm very impressed. I never would have noticed that. Also, looks like the top layer of the PCB board got chipped off where one of the capactior leads would have been attached. Can a cap still be attached with it being like this? I didn't notice any extra parts in the electrostatic bag so I can only assume that they missed it

A quick update. I bought a board on eBay from a KDL-40V2500 for about $40. I'm now back in business. Both HDMI ports are now working.

Marantz SR4003 AVR HDMI board issue, seeking for help
                    by aliougm
I have problem with my AVR(Marantz SR4003) HDMI board issue. I connect to my TV but screen color distorted, see attached picture.

                    Connection as below:
                    Set-top box HDMI output >AVR 3 HDMI input/one HDMI output>HDTV HDMI port
If I bypassed AVR then HDTV screen color be good.

I take out HDMI board from AVR and check services manual the schematic shown the HDMI signals path:
                    3 HDMI input port > SIL9185 chip(HDMI switch) > SIL9033 chip(HDMI receiver) > SIL9030 chip(HDMI transmitter) > HDMI output port

                    I replaced all...

I just picked up this tv yesterday and the previous owner said while watching tv he heard a loud a pop and then the screen went dark. I removed the back cover and found the source rather quickly; resistor R8601. A chunk of the ceramic had blown off exposing the inner wire. Due to the damage I cannot make out the colors of a couple bands. I likewise cannot find a datasheet for the power supply. I tried pulling up pictures of the same board online but the resistors have different colored bands which I half expected as I've had this happen before.

                    The power supply is 715G8413-P01-001-0H2S...

Sony PS4 component Missing, near the HDMI Port
                    by Ritchie_Uk
                    Hi there

A Sony PS4 came in for "No Video" and it seems there is a component Missing, near the HDMI Port.
                    The Component circled in Red

                    1. Was this just a Component Missing from Manufacture please?
                    2. It is a straight forward Port Replacement, or do I need to be aware of anything else?
                    3. Any Schematics or Board Views available?

                    Any Advice is greatly appreciated.

                    Stay Safe !!...
