Sony 40EX400 HDMI Input Problem

Only my TV & HDMI 1 (DVD/BD) Input connector work.But when I plug my HD TV box into HDMI 1 (DVD/BD) it ony show up as 720 not 1080?
If I access the menu only these two choose are highlighted. (as seen in the pic)

Would anyone know if this is a hardware or a software problem?

I have no idea but if you treat hdmi as plug and play you are likely to lose
your last working input. Due to the number of problems seen on here I have been warning people to switch the tv off and preferably unplug it before
plugging in an hdmi lead.

Are you sure the hd tv box is outputing a 1080 signal and not a 720 signal, It can be changed in some tv boxes
Also do you have the latest firmware from Sony for this model

On my other TV it show up as 1080p so I have to assume it a 1080 signal. Also, I did update to the latest firmware. I also unplug the TV & plug in the HDMI into 2,3 & 4 and none of them work. I plug in the VGA cable from my computer and it don't work either!
Am wondering if the main board is defective or if its a software problem?

fairly common for inputs to "die",like mentioned here before,plug and play of inputs can kill a port.
Only way to fix would be to replace the mainboard. To replace a HDMI chip is a high skilled soldering job IF you are able to get a replacement chip even.

reset the TV to factory setting, maybe there will be a discover /detection process.

Thanks for your reply ecking676. The manual says " Turn on the TV. While holding down V on the remote control, press POWER on the TV. (The TV will turn itself off, then back on again.) Release V"
But I tried that & nothing happens?

When I press Display, 5, V I get the following menu but I don't see the factory setting option??

What is the make/model of your HDV Box
Could always try contacting them and sony to ask if any compatibility issues

What are the other options on the menu that has "display" on it

That is great news - just for the record can you state the reset procedure you used - did you find another menu?

its one of the first things I do once I get a repaired TV back up an running, its clear out the previous owner setting. That good news!! glad to help !!
