So i have this set top box that has no name or branding or anything and it does not work. If plugged in and switched on the LED lights green. Then the TV detects input and shows a black screen. Thats all. Will not turn off, not reacting to anything. I have tryed the hairdryer trick to see if maybe some of the capacitors have high ESR , but it did not work. Maybe the problem is in the software that is loaded on there and has crashed, not the hardware? Your opinions? Worth restoring or for spare parts? I have attatched pictures below.

Re: Broken noname set top box
Got some time to test the thing a little more. Didn´t bother to check the ram chip. If its broken it will be less problematic to buy a new set top box. However one of the voltage regulators(next to heatsink) has low input voltage, that is lower than the other same mark regulators have on the board.(too lazy to find datasheet) Otherwise the regulator seems to work fine tough and i am guessing the input voltage is what is causing this junk to malfunction.Comment

by chth96When I assembled dreamcast I mistakenly fastened long bolt and It resulted in
cutting tiny trace.
This tiny trace(Total width of white coating is 5.5mm) is between R337,R343 and IC101 and it is covered with white coating in the below screenshot.
Firstly I tried to bridging tiny broken trace with my own eyes...But it is totally impossible..So a week ago, I ordered G1200 Digital Microscope and I magnified this tiny broken trace with it.
But It seems that It is really very tiny trace So I plan to order 0.1mm coper wire from aliexpress in order to bridging... -
Hello guys! I need a little help, I have one laptop for repair, it is an Aorus 17G YD, gaming laptop. Broken display, some cable ripped form daughter board connector, case broken, battery discharged and probably locked, etc. After I did the most tedious job I ever did on soldering back the broken cables (shielded cable) , I measured resistance on CPU and GPU core, 3 and 5 v ps and any coils I find on the board, everything seems to be fine. After I plugged the charger I don't get the power led light on from the charger connection maybe because the battery is locked , but on power button I have...

by corrizeHello, I have a Fujifilm hybrid camera with an issue : the time don't run. I set 12:00 and 3 min later, the same : 12:00
I saw an obvious root cause : a broken quartz (resonator). But with the box broken, I can't read the marking code. Probably : 464… or A64…
I found on the web a picture of the same camera board but with marking code very different. Probably : A7…5N
I'm searching another one for compare…
Do you have an idea or another way for find the frequency of this resonator please ?
(I did not found the manufacturer of this component ? And I did not found the... -
by emeskayWe have an Lenovo Yoga 710 15ISK that we use as a secondary laptop. To cut a long story short, around May 2023, while traveling, I connected the laptop into an electrical outlet that was already switched on. Something made a "pfft" sound and the laptop refused to turn on after that. After getting back home, I gave the the laptop for repair to an informal repair person. He replaced the adapter and an internal motherboard part, but after he returned it I noticed that the LCD did not look normal. Essentially, every alternate horizontal line on the screen had gone missing. The laptop was...1 Photo

by chth96I have old game console which have connected to 220v outlet by previous owner and It is not able to turn on.
I checked continuity of fuse in PSU unit with a multimeter which is shown in the below picture with a orange circle around it, and It seems that fuse became open circuit.
I also found that as well as bulging capacitor, there is unidentified coil which has residue all over its surface
