    Re: Panasonic TC-P50S2 Snowy Picture

Yes the new board will probably be the best solution as my soldering skills are not the best and will be unable to obtain an oscilloscope. Do you know a good place to get a new board will be? Will there be any adjustments to make after changing the board or will simply swapping for a new one be sufficient?

      Re: Panasonic TC-P50S2 Snowy Picture

With a modern Panasonic panel such as this, simply locating a 50" series 2 board (TC-P50G2, TC-P50V2, TC-P50S2) with the same part number and suffix should be OK. You need to avoid getting a 3D board (TC-P50VT25 comes to mind) or a 25 series board as it will likely be different. Also you can't use a 42",46",58",65" board without considerable modifications, so best to avoid those.

Did you try and look for a cold solder joint?

There are a couple of part numbers on the board. Can you tell me which to use? Also, where can I find the prefix? I think it is a TNPA5105 but no prefix.

The first shot is the SC board.

The second is of the SU board bolted/connected to the SC board.

Could be a very hard board to source.

              TXNSC1LQUU, TNPA5105AB

              Panasonic
              TC-P50S2 TC-P50U2, TX-P50S20B, TX-P50U20B

Edit: TXNSC11FEK50 is another part number.

I'm pretty sure the C2 is no go due to being 720p panel?
Can try some diagnosis there is a schematic, I am thinking it is the init-field FET that is not being driven correctly, best to have a scope but can see what is possible with a multimeter.

                  Fixed. Cheers

Should have picked that, copy/paste straight from SJ without checking they had it correct, which obviously they don't.

I can check Monday when I'm back from dog seminar. I might have that board.

Checked online and can only find a repair kit for that board. The kit says it is for most problems with the SC board but lists blinking fault codes which mine did not have.
                      could this work?

"The Panasonic TXNSC1LQUU SC Board Component Repair Kit includes all necessary components to repair common failures on the main SC board. Symptoms include will not turn on and power light will blink 4, 5 or 7 times."

                      Specifications: Kit Includes
                      Description Quantity Board Location
                      Transistors 8 Included With Kit
                      Resistors 3 Included With Kit
                      Diodes 1 Included With Kit
Integrated Circuits 1 Included With Kit

That will probably not fix this problem unfortunately.

this board seems pretty tough to get for a TV that is less than 4 years old.

It's a common failure and Panasonic panels are sold in lesser numbers and are more resilient to being broken unlike Samsung panels so it's rarer to find a cracked one for parts use.

I am going to try to call Panasonic tomorrow to see if they will sell me the board. Not sure if i will have any luck with them since i am not an "authorized repair center"

You can often buy the board through something like Sears or a parts distributor but you would be looking at a stupid price ($300+) in most cases.

well that would not help for little more I can buy a new TV.

Hence why I call it a stupid price, I really do not know how these companies sell any boards at those prices. Maybe to warranty companies only.

the snow is probably a bad cap letting ripple/noise into the processing circuits.

i'd replace all the small electrolytics - if that dont fix it, try the large ones.

There is probably a small lytic around the set-up ramp generator responsible for setting the ramp timing, or a ceramic cap. For a failure that would be my bet but locating it could be hard without a scope.

Checked on the sears site they list a RFR-PTS-164 as a substitution but does not list a price. will check with them tomorrow also.
