Hmm looks like all HDMI goes into the xilleon processor.. Which is not replaceable. :-(

Do you buy the original remote controller?

are there any components on the bottom side of the main board near the HDMI ports?

to concluded: you try two known working devices: XBOX and a DVD player using the HDMI ports on those unit and still not video? right?

The HDMI is being feed directly to the CPU,so it is possible is could be non functional. possible bad main board.

The TVs HDMI portion in the chip is shot... I might actually have a mainboard laying around for that unit too... how well it works i dont know i bought the unit for the LCD screen... I will have to get the part # off it to check it...

To end the xbox argument; Older versions of xbox known as the "PHAT" models have the fans that blow out the back of the unit; "SLIM" versions have the Fan out the Top of the unit...
If you have a "PHAT" model; HDMI and other inputs is not exactly "automatic" at all... The composite cable has a switch on it physically to switch between HD and SD video display; which means that to trigger the HD function of the ANA/HANA chip it is done externally by that switch. Now I have for hand on fact have an Xbox that when on SD using RCA the xbox works fine as soon as you switch it over to HD it throws 3 rings of death... This concludes that HD is for fact controlled by that external switch where that cable is being used... Now when you remove the A/V cable and switch it for lets say a VGA one the xbox sense that connector in there and allows for very high resolution selections for monitor type displays... Now early versions of xbox do not even have an HDMI port so the older models that do its sort of a pigback on so when you plug in an HDMI cable it basically triggers a signal electronically that an HDMI cable is inserted and activates that line on the HANA chip thus giving signal to the HDMI port; however it will NOT readjust the resolution automatically...

The newer "SLIM" version of xbox only allows for one cord or the other -A/V bung or HDMI- plugged into it at one time and does automatically recognize what type of input and resolution...

So in the end the xbox question is a YES and a NO depending on if its PHAT or SLIM...

The HDMI is bad. If the chip is not replaceable, then I'll have to find another board.

I'm probably not going to spend money on a remote until I get the HDMI fixed. There are loads of Sanyo remotes that look alike but have different model numbers and functions, so finding one that will work correctly is going to be a hassle.

Will the HDMI picture quality be about the same on this TV as it is for the newer TVs? I'm asking because I've been using component, and while watching Cosmos I noticed pixelation in the black/dark areas. Is that normal for component?

when troubleshooting in electronics, one of the first things you should try is resetting the device by to factory setting, then check to see if that resolve the problem. Then you try other thing like, another cable or another video source. Then you go inside unit if the problem isn't resolve.

I'm not 100% convince your HDMI ports are bad. does the main cpu chip get extremely hot if you plug in the HDMI cable?

This TV sat for months and months with no power (or power board). I'd be very surprised if it is operating under anything other than factory settings.

There's no need to try another cable or video source - the XBOX works fine with my LED TV, so the cable and source are working.

I can't imagine there being any setting in the TV menu that would disable all HDMI ports. And even if there were - again, the TV has been sitting for months unplugged, surely it has reverted to default settings by now.

If anyone has a board for this TV, let me know, thanks.

Just a note--settings will be stored in non volatile memory (eeprom) so unplugging it for months won't make any difference.

It's more likely than anything else that the surge damage killed the HDMI receiver too. Often the surge current will pass thru a cable box and out HDMI to destroy connected TV's.

Amazingly i've never had a surge damaged TV out of nearly 100... Think it's more of a us problem

Ahhh, you're probably right, Tom.

In any case, I picked up a new board on the cheap yesterday and now the TV is working as it should. I just have to figure out which remote to get for it that will actually work for the menus.

I have the old board if anyone wants it for parts or a test board.

For future reference - the Sanyo GXBM works the menu and other general functions for this TV. I suspect that any remote that looks similar to the GXBM will also work.

TV looks and sounds pretty amazing. Very impressed with it. Especially the sound and general lack of input delay, which is very surprising for such an old TV.
