I replaced the ic several times from different sellers. Unfortunaly nothing worked. Also ill tried all the tips you guys provided me. And iam greatfull for that.
This morning i walked into my shack, and the screen was cracked thanks to one of my kiddos.
So the case is close now.

Have you read the datasheet on the ic? Read page 14 Startup Operation. it explains how the IC produces the startup vcc voltage.
idd replaced the diode with ann original.
my electronics knowledge is a little poor so i guess that the te transformer have to deliver some voltage to pin 5 on the chip. but there is none!
or should the cip deliver voltage to the transformer?
on pins 2 and 3 i have normal voltage. on 1-4 none. when icheck with multimeter pins 1 and 4 have continuity.Leave a comment:

Thanks, I always test with a lamp in series, I desolderd most components in that area and tested them. They tested fine.Hi, about what R-J says, that IC7903 has startup current on pin 5, sound strange to me, i have not searched datasheets, based on photos, i see that Pin 5 takes current only from aux winding of transformer, usually those type of chips takes the startup from the primary winding of transformer, after the normal current on pin 5, i suggest Danny to check the original IC7903 for short on pins 1,8, if there is, check the R7907, the pink one near the big PFC inductor, it must be opened.. replace it and test the board, preferably with lamp in series..
PS: i see no signs of counterfeit, you can use the actual one for me..
On the transformer I get B+ voltage on pin 2-3, but on pin 1-4 nothing, the trafo also has no shorts.
On the cirquitry of ic 7902 also everything tested fine but also there is no voltage.
Is it possible that the voltage needed for that circuit comes from ic 7801?

Did you mean to remove the @5 on the photo?, pin 4 to 3 is not shorted, the caps 7918 and 7907 are fine I checked them with an esr meter and multimeter.Check the resistance of IC7903 pin 4 to 3, if it is not shorted, there may be a possible fault with ic7902 ac brown-out ic you might try removing J7018 near @5 and see if you get any vcc on pin 5 of ic7903, If you look at the datasheet you will see the startup vcc is generated by the ic internally and charges C7907
In post #3 I said to replace C7918, that should have been C7907
and as stated above, they may be fake ic's

Check the resistance of IC7903 pin 4 to 3, if it is not shorted, there may be a possible fault with ic7902 ac brown-out ic you might try removing J7018 near @5 and see if you get any vcc on pin 5 of ic7903, If you look at the datasheet you will see the startup vcc is generated by the ic internally and charges C7907

My wife's 2019 MBP died a couple of weeks ago and I have been trying to figure out what is wrong with it. I have an electronics background and equipment but never tried to diagnose a modern MBP before. I have the board view and schematics already and have been climbing the learning curve steadily!
Initial fault was no power with USB ammeter showing 5.19V @ around 12 to 35ma. I won't go into all the initial debug I did because ultimately I found R7900 to be high resistance when it should have been a 0ohm link.

As the title suggests, how can I be sure that my EC chip is really dead?
I've recently gotten into this hobby of laptop repairs, and have successfully brought back to life a couple with some easy fixes, mostly shorted caps.
Now I'm working on HP Probook 455 G8, that had some "devil" run around on 3V line, burning a bunch of stuff. Luckily I have a dead 455G7 (for spare parts) so I managed to fix it (swapped burned parts) to a point that it will charge (both on barrel jack and usb-c), but it doesn't want to turn on. There is a 3V3 on a keyboard... -

history : as always hdmi port and usb ports destroyed after unplugged
after change them, ps5 dead too : 1 beep, no blue light. after inspection 1.8v power was shorted, and because of dead panasonic chip. after remove it : no short anymore
so i changed it
now i have got 5v stby,, 3.3v stby, 3.3v power, 1.8v power and no short on them
but the ps5 is dead again : 1 beep, near 10 seconds with power lines and then off, no blue light ...
i don't see any projection of liquid metal on pcb.

I have this PSU (GPS450-AA delta oem) around for like 4-5 years and I had it recapped early 2020 or 2021 with mostly UCC KY and Nichicon PW's. The bulk was and still is fine, the original Ltec's were bloated and empty. The previous issue was some major coil whine noise and at times random shutdowns when going idle. Today it started tripping the mains breaker and I think I have dead APFC mosfets (20N60C3). Right now upon checking I have the Q1 and Q3 FETs dead so far and I guess those are responsible for the PFC circuit. The only thing I care is If there...3 Photos -

I searched for the term "dead short" in the forum but no specific thread came up however if I'm just blind and couldn't see the thread talking about this please forward me to that direction.
So my problem is I don't know how to find the source of a dead shorted voltage rail. Dead short = ~0 ohm resistance.
I have two VGAs (HD 4850 and HD 4870), both dead shorted to ground on the memory rail. I have the boardview file for the 4870 and the memory rail consists around ~7892346 capacitors...
I have a bench PSU and if I try to inject voltage the voltage... - Loading...
