    Samsung LE40R87BD

    Hi all
Can any one help with this set?
This Samsung lcd came in as a dead set I have changed all the usual cap in the power supply and upgraded them to 25v when changed set would still not power up, so carried out eprom reset by shorting pins 5/6 and eventually got set to power up.
It came on with no picture although the back lights are working as screen lights up grey and you can see them on at the back of TV through various holes in metal covering.
It has sound but no picture I have it connected to sky box via a scart lead you can hear the sound on all channels but no picture.
I then sent for a replacement Tcon board but still no picture also when set is on after about 5mins it starts to switch its self off and on several times don't know if the switching it self off/on has any bearing to the no picture problem ?

Any help would be much appreciated.
    Regards Ron

Can you supply a picture of the T-con board?
It is possible you got a defective board.

Sorry missed your post - have you checked the voltage each end of the fuse?

            That's ok tom.
Not checked voltage but tested fuse while board was out and it reads fine not o/c .

              Re: Samsung LE40R87BD

Check the voltage on each end relative to chassis, with TV powered, will tell you if main board is switching 12V/13V on (it is switched separate to the main rails.)

                    Re: Samsung LE40R87BD

Eeprom IC 1803 is corrupt. Change it to a blank 24C256.
When you start the tv after you changed the ic it will
turn on and off two times. On the third you will get the picture.
You had to check the options in the service menu.
                    Inch Option and Panel Type.

                      Thanks Kilroys
I will source a Eeprom and install.
(can you just clarify your last sentence for me)
Do you mean when I have installed new eprom I need to enter setup mode by pressing info/menu/power then in setup pick option for 40" and lcd panel type.

                      Regards Ron

Yes if it says 40", and 40AMLCD you need not do anything.

Your readings are indicating the main board is working, sending 13V to T-con. You can try checking AVDD on T-con next.

Hello all. new here but looking for places to help others

Just a note on the 24C256 that needs replaced. I was once in this situation and replacing the Eeprom worked, but my 'customer' was in a desperate hurry and wouldn't wait for the postman, The world had ended since the TV was dead!

I took a risk, I 'stole' a 24C256 from a completely different set (Scrap board) on the off chance that it might work and sure enough it did! The Samsung fired up, found the chip, clearly it wasn't happy with the contents of the chip so it cleared whatever was originally on it then reprogrammed it right back up and the set worked absolutely fine!

This might just have been a lucky shot in the dark for me, but, if all else fails and you're in a desperate hurry and you just happen to have a spare used Eeprom handy, it might just be worth a try.
