Re: LG 47LW450U fixed itself.
It returned.
Good news though, I've spent an entire day on it but found a dry joint on a smd choke. What a pain that was to find. but it was the cause for sure.
Fixed that but now I have no DTV Signal which did work earlier. Pulling my hair out now...

LG 47LW450U fixed itself.
I have this TV in for repair, Original fault description was "Stuck in standby" and sure enough when we tried to power it up it would flash red a couple of times, then blue a couple of times then return back to red and the set was back in standby.
The owner of the set said all they did to make it go off was to catch the power cord of the TV as they walked past with their foot and that was it, the set went dead. It cannot have been any serious pull on the cord as there appears to be zero damage to either the cord or the entry point on the back of the TV set where the cable goes...Last edited by paulnetv; 07-18-2014, 03:20 AM.

Re: Power supply build quality pictorial. part 2
Being honest, I think it's a long shot, most of the PSU's I worked on were rejects from Compaq factory in Scotland, We repaired an awful lot of them that were sent over from Taiwan then failed, I fixed & personalised a fair few, in fact it was probably many thousands!
I wonder how many PC's were sent to the states from Compaq in Scotland? Pitney Bowes Franking machines had a nice little PSU in them, One or two of those might have been personalised too

Re: Power supply build quality pictorial. part 2
Hahaha, these pictures bring back memories of PC PSU's.
This is quite probably too late considering it's been a few years (Like twenty years!), but if any of you guys ever get a Lite-On or certain Dell PSU's with some foul language scratched into the green underside of the PCB then I might be able to tell you who did it
Yes, I was young & stupid at one time and I used to work at a branch of Lite-On in the repairs section.

Re: LG 42PJ350 Dont Turn ON only Stand by - Without Ysus & Ymain He Turn On
dopey, I love the nameI wish I had though of that one before I signed up
Anyway, I think you misunderstand me, Using a continuity meter, measure from the metal chassis to the points I mentioned earlier, this does not show a faulty component, it merely highlights the area within the TV which has the fault. For example, if you measure zero ohms from the metal chassis to any one of the fuses on the Ysus board, then you know the Ysus board has a fault on it which is overloading the PSU...Last edited by paulnetv; 06-09-2014, 09:33 AM.

I hope he hasn't gone out and bought his 15A fuse already then

Re: Need help finding replacement caps for home speakers
My guess, Search for "Bi-Polar" rather than non polar.
I would think the caps in the PSU are more important than this one but I know next to nothing on audio equipment if I'm honest.
With a quick search on Ebay I just found a number or possible replacements, mainly 10uf and 4.7uf but with more searching I'm sure you'll find something to replace your cap with. Again I am not sure in an audio application that this would work, but it might be worth trying a couple of 3.3uf in parallel if you...

Re: Blown Capacitor Identification
Erm, I don't want to throw a spanner in the works here but I would be looking very carefully at that fuse again.
Are you sure it is not a T3.15A 250V fuse???? Replacing a 3.15A with a 15A would clearly be a bad thing to do!
It would be some seriously meaty hand mixer that used a 15A fuse!

For the record, this one was a faulty ctrl board.

Re: LG 42PJ350 Dont Turn ON only Stand by - Without Ysus & Ymain He Turn On
Gilera001 I am working on exactly the same TV right now, I have 2 of them in for repair.
From what you describe, I think there is a fault with either the Ysus or Xsus board in the TV.
Make sure TV is powered OFF then remove the power plugs to both Xsus & Ysus boards. Then check for continuity between the metal chassis and the fuses on the Ysus board. There are 3 fuses to check, FS201, FS202 & FS203.
Also check continuity from chassis to the back of the two screen...

Re: Why can't I remove posts
Yeah, I know I am posting in a thread that's been dragged up from the arc...
However, This not being allowed to remove your own post... you'll possibly find that it's to prevent the sensible ones on the forum looking like a spoon.
Imagine you reply to this and say something to me, I then removed my post, you'd look like a rusty spoon too (Useless) replying to....... nothing?
Just be thankful for small mercies, There are a lot of forums out there which won't even allow you to edit your own posts

I'm scratching my head now.

Re: rectification in smps
Can I try?
I think you are asking WHY do we do it rather than HOW does it work? If so then putting it simply, you get 45 - 60Hz from your wall outlet. (Depending on which country you live in.)
The lower the frequency you switch at, the larger the transformer needs to be.
So, if you want smaller component size, less weight etc, you switch at higher frequency.
To do this, you firstly have to rectify your 50Hz (Here in UK) and smooth it giving you DC, this then allows you switch it very rapidly allowing...
