Vizio V585-J01 dancing lines and image doubling

I got this tv yesterday and it shows a screen full of colored vertical bars and horizontal lines that move, change, and dance around. When the set is powered on there is a slight buzz from the tcon. I removed one ribbon at a time and this was the result:

Right side connected, left side disconnected = half image on right (somewhat distorted, see photo attached) white screen on left. NO buzzing from TCON

Left side connected, right side disconnected = right side black, left side white with distorted horizontal lines near top of screen. Buzzing from TCON

I swapped the ribbons as well to see if it was a ribbon issue but the symptoms did not change.

Attached are photos of the boards as well as the scaler for the left side

I will check the caps for short. If I find one hopefully I can replace it. I plan to sell this set and if I successfully do the tape truck there would be visible signs in the image, right?

You won't be able to sell this.. if tape works

Tape will just show is a panel short usually without wasting a bunch of time, for me it does anyway. Since you got half a screen with lines probably is panel..

Yes something will generally be off in the picture with tape. Tape isn't really a fix.. so ethically I cant sell them, so I just take the good parts and put em on ebay

Ya that's why I'm hoping to find a bad capacitor or something fixable. If not oh well, parts as you said.

from yours photo of half panel disconnected you have the line s and clear white half screen... it tell the T-CON issue or ribbon cable damage

As diah said, could be TCON. I've never had luck with TCON yet. Or ribbon that is.

Where you located orange? You get quite a few tvs I've seen as well.

I can rule out the ribbon as I already tried swapping them and the symptoms were the same. It would be nice if it were just a TCON. The way that the lines move and everything kinda morphs DOES look like a TCON issue.

I haven't checked the caps on the scaler yet, but I will before jumping the gun and buying a board.

EazyBone I live about 20 minutes northeast of Detroit.

I unlatched the left side ribbon and started wiggling it around and can get almost a full picture. As I said earlier, I did try swapping ribbons and still had the same result which is weird because this looks like a ribbon problem, or possibly a connection issue within the sockets?

Extra info: I blocked off the clock signals and get the image attached

Can clock signals be bad on the TCON side, or only the panel side?

You'll have to ask one of the more advanced people here I'm not sure. I've had a few Vizio's do something similar to this and I couldn't make it go any different.

panel fault , the dancing jumping of the image can be stopped but the lines will remain on screen by
try masking the first 3 pins on the left side of ribbon cable ( the one on your left hand when you looking from the back... and the first three will be the first lines on the left side of the ribbon cable..

if this not succeed do the same of the right side.instate of the left side.

i just got 2 sets yesterday Grundig size 50 same the T-con you have and same issue

Update: messed around with this some more tonight and by taping off probably 10 or more traces I got a very nice picture with just a shadow banner across the bottom. However, after about 2 or 3 minutes it fades into bright purple and looks terrible. Turning the tv off and back on instantly restores it to just the shadow banner.

Is this the best I can hope to achieve with tape, or am I missing another pin somewhere that could prevent it from turning purple? Further, would this be an actual fault inside of the panel, or would a bad capacitor on the scaler board for that side cause this and be repairable if I could track it down and replace it?

My thoughts is trash it. Screen defects aren't worth the time. Probably a panel short. Small TV not worth much. Take parts out and trashola

                                58" is SMALL??

So would the short literally be INSIDE of the panel? Or a shorted component on the attached PCBs? If I could just make it NOT turn purple anymore I'd keep it and use it for myself.

🤔 Would that really cause the color morphing AFTER a few minutes of being on and looking relatively good as in the first couple pics?

I was wondering if maybe I covered TOO MANY pins with the tape.. like I said tho, powering off and back on instantly gets rid of the purple again for another few minutes.

Oh. It's the same TV tho! No cracks as far as I know, I just haven't had a chance to really mess with it again until just recently. I cleared up the image using the tape method. It's just the grey shadow at the bottom now that eventually fades purple. I have maybe 10 or 12 covered, so I'm wondering if that's overkill and actually causing the purple to come in.

Attached video shows the purple morphing in over the course of 1 minute.

I picked up a Vizio E70-E3 for free that shows Vizio logo and then goes to a black screen. Original owner said he started having wifi issues and then he tried to reset the TV and that's when it wouldn't boot up any longer after his reset attempt. I picked up a replacement main board from eBay that matches the same model # board as the original from the TV.

Original main board - Shows Vizio logo when TV powers on, then goes to black screen. Doesn't boot up. No screen issues with any lines on start up Vizio logo.

Replacement main board - Boots up fine, but starting...

I can see the Netflix logo (jumbled) after a minute or less the screen went dark. When I turned it on again the lines were back. Then I replaced the t-con board but the same vertical lines in the picture. My question is what is my next step? Could it be a source tab bond issue? A buffer board issue? Could I have loosened a connection to the panel when replacing the backlights? Should I replace the...

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                                          Assuming...

Hi guys, I have a Vizio M58Q7-J01 and now there are some colored horizontal lines on the screen. Could someone tell me if it's probably a panel issue or something related to other parts and can be fixed? Thank you in advance....

Found yet another TV by the road that has lines across the whole screen. What is causing this?
