A pic of the chassis and the various boards would help....

When you Try and turn on,--does the red-light go off--even for half a second?

From turning mains on--does the red-light flash at all?

Any flicker/life at all from the backlight when turned on?

What made you consider the power supply initially? Have you checked any of the voltages from the PSU board?

Sounds to me there's some issue with the mainboard....

Whats its full number, I'll have a look on Monday--see if I have one, that chassis is pretty common, scrapped a few over the months....

I just brought home a very similar 37lh20 two days ago with the exact same problem. You can force the PSU on with two resistors to test the PSU and the inverter.

If I remember correctly, on my PSU, the connector that has the harness that runs from the main board to the PSU has a pin marked "on/off" and one marked "INV on". Run one 1K ohm resistor from the 5.2V pin to the "on/off" pin and the other one from another 5.2V to the "INV on" pin. Post a close up picture of that connector on your PSU. It needs to be clear enough to read the markings for each pin. One of us will tell you exactly how to do it.

This is from another TV, but it should give you the idea.

Yes just connect 500ohm to 1000 ohm resistors as JB1313 says

Also we prefer pictures posted with "manage attachments" as in time yours will disappear making the post less useful for others in future
Please upload pictures using attachment function when ask for help on the repair

OK, thanks for the pic. Like selldoor says, "managa attachments" is considerably easier for us to use. We can copy the pic and highlight areas for you if you use manage attachments.

Back to the subject at hand. Plug the harness into that connector and unplug the other end from the main. If your set is like mine, there should be one blue wire and the rest in that harness are grey. Place the end of one resistor into the hole in the connector directly next to the blue wire. Skip two holes and place the other end of that resistor into the hole for 5.2V. Put one end of your other resistor into the third hole down from the other end in the same row. Put the other end into the hole directly above the hole that has the other resistor in it for 5.2V. There are four pins for 5.2V, you should be able to use any of the other three.

To be clear, the PSU should be mounted in the TV with all harnesses connected to it. Unplug the set from the power outlet before you start. Plug it in once you've used the resistors and the backlights should come on at that point.
