There is no HDMI button on the remote or TV, only an input button. I'll play around with the input and try to change it to HDMI blindly. Standby

ok you can change the input from the control panel buttons on the TV, press input button than wait about 5 second, no sound then press the input button again.
Do you know the last input the TV was being used on?

You don't have this remote controller?

No I have a smaller remote.

I have discovered that the TV DOES have sound. Does this mean the inverter is likely bad?

Does the VIZIO logo go away?
Does it have a logo on the screen when you switch it on or not?

I think I misread your post; I thought you said the "V" logo came up on screen and backlight went away but the "V" was still visible faintly; but I had it mixed up with the logo on the TV frame and on the screen.

So yes you could have an inverter fault ...

The big V on the screen goes away after about 2-3 seconds but the white Visio emblem below the screen continues to glow white. When connected to cable (coax) I can see a faint picture if I take a flashlight to it and there is sound. If it is an inverter problem, luckily those are cheap on ebay.

That is inverter or backlight bulbs. Flash mem does not cause that; if it had been a stuck logo, we have seen flash mem cause that here. My fault for confusion. Can you post a picture of the inverter?

It's a little difficult to get to. I have to take off several pieces of tape in order to unplug the IR board, speakers, etc. I called Visio last night and am awaiting to find out today if it'll be covered under warranty. There's a small chance it'll be covered and they'll fix it, but if they don't then I will remove the inverter, look for bulging caps, and post a picture of it. If need be I'll find the exact replacement on ebay. They seem to be about $10 or so. Since signs point to a possible failed inverter, I figured it's better to spend 10 bucks on one before forking out $65 for a main board.

I'll update this post later. Thanks everyone for your support! I'll continue to gain knowledge and eventually help spread some around for the community.

                Cheers

Re: Vizio 32" E321VL struggling to power on

I took the TV completely apart, thinking that the two long circuit boards that the led lamps plug into were the inverter boards. Eh, it looks like it turns out that the "inverter board" is built into the power supply board.

So it looks like my instincts were right from the beginning, that it was the power supply board at fault? Unless I missed a board somewhere... but I've got this thing in pieces at the moment.

I have only seen this model with the power supply & inverter together. if you want to confirm your inverter circuit is bad, it may have bad output transistors.Check the four transistor for short using your meter. I'm repairing the same power supply & inverter and I found shorted output transistors. But to quickly repair your TV just replace the power supply & inverter board.

Thanks. I'm getting resistance on all 4 transistors so they don't seem to be shorted. I order the power supply board anyway... Hopefully it'll fix the issue. I'll update this post with results.

My favourite trick with these 2+ transformer inverters to put a neon bulb next to each transformer; if the bulb glows, there is HV being produced and the transformer is probably working.

yes hopefully, one more possibility will be bad one or more bad CCFL. Sometime you will an arcing noise is that was the case.
