Red light but no power - alba tv please help

    Dear all,

I have an alba tv, and it will not turn on.

The red standby light is solid, but when I click the power button on the remote or the set; It will not do anything at all.

I have opened it up and can see two capacitors have a reddish dust on them. Do these need changing?

Model #? Pictures of the boards and of the suspect capacitors?

Hello I am not with the TV right now, but I will definitely update this thread with the model number as soon as I can.

I have attached an image so you can see the suspect cap.

Just looks like factory markings, nothing wrong with that - also looks like that power board outputs one voltage only which is always available so you can check to see if that is testing OK.

          Hi thanks for your reply.

          How would I test it.

I literally can't see what else could be wrong with it.
Any suggestions what could be the problem and the solution?

You would need a digital multimeter, do you have one or could you borrow one? A relatively inexpensive bit of kit; Maplin sell them for under £10 each.

              I have one.

But never used it to test a board.

              Any advice?

Perhaps update your profile with country and voltage so we know what voltages we are dealing with.

I'm not sure what the line voltage would be for United Kingdom?

Prolly find its the mainboard thats at fault. Confirm there's 12v coming from that PSU first...

The pins on the PSU are marked what they are...

Plug Black lead in COM,Red lead in VmA above it, Set meter to V-20 to the left of off,Black probe to any fixing screw on power board, Red probe on wire connector next to caps start with top red wire and work down, and let us know what the meter reads Flocko

                                    Hi thanks for your reply.

All except the last two read between 0.01-0.02 for about a second and then went to 0.00.

                                    The last two read 0.00.

The red power light is lit, I don't know if that helps?

Any suggestions whats wrong, or what to do next?

You can't be testing it correct then, if you get 0V there the power light would not work. Show us what your meter is set to please.

                                          Hi all!

I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅

I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

                                          Hi there,

I've got a 39" LG 39LN540V that's just spontaneously stopped working! The symptoms are - when I plug it in, the red light will flash on twice, then go out, there's no visible picture, and I couldn't see anything using a torch on the panel either. If I press the power button (either remote or on TV), the red light comes on continuously. If I press power again, the red light flashes twice.

The TV is using a power board EAX64905301. I've attached a diagram of the power output, I've tested the voltages with a multimeter and I'm getting the following:
                                          ...

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
                                          by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

See pictures for type of laptop computer

I checked switching power supply brick 19.2 volts multi meter only

No booting without switching power supply connected

Checked switching power supply with an (28 volt ) incandescent light bulb it lights then hooked up the switching power supply again now the laptop and boots like normal

What the heck is going on here...
