Re: Help with Cannon iP4850 Printer
Yes printer was mine.
I left it to print a lot of pages, and came back and it was off. It wouldn't come back on. Before this it used to print fine....

Re: Help with Cannon iP4850 Printer
Wow thanks! I didn't know that, but is there a way to test that?
How would I know if it's a print head problem?...

Re: Help with Cannon iP4850 Printer
If not the power board, it's probably the logic board. Are they easy to troubleshoot and repair? Or not worth it?

Re: Help with Cannon iP4850 Printer
So basically there's nothing wrong with the power board?
What else would stop the printer not turning on?
Here's a complete pic of the power board:...

OK thanks.
I'm not sure if you read the whole thread, but i've done the last test, just not sure if the results are good or bad, and what to do next?

Re: Help with Cannon iP4850 Printer
Once its switched off, do I need to touch the long nose pliers to the big cap soldering points. This drains the excess current or something doesn't it?

Re: Help with Cannon iP4850 Printer
Sorry just seen your picture, yes they line up.
I'll test it like this.
Negative probe on second pin, carefully touch red probe on other pins.Last edited by SmartestSmarty; 07-21-2014, 05:19 AM.

Re: Help with Cannon iP4850 Printer
Thanks again, but not sure which joints marked C you are referring to?
The ones on the bottom side of the board, which say C13, C14 and C15; or the ones on the top side saying CN1, CN2, C1, C2, C4, C10A, C10B, C9, C11, C12?...

Re: Help with Cannon iP4850 Printer
Heres a pic of the other side of the board. I'm not sure which would be ground?
On the actual connecter, the connection to the pin which says 1, on the connecter says H JST. The second connector says F2. There is also a little x in-between both of these connection points.
The third says 3, the fourth says 4 and the fifth says 5.
Does this help?...Last edited by SmartestSmarty; 07-21-2014, 04:44 AM.

Re: Help with Cannon iP4850 Printer
What is the wedge for? Incase you accidentally move it and it touches you? Or when I turn it on is it likely to start moving by itself?
Also, when I touch the probes on the live cap soldering joints, it's not going to melt the handles is it and give me a great big shock?
Also, I can't find the setting you mentioned on my meter?

Re: Help with Cannon iP4850 Printer
I retested them, and they all say 00.8 the same as when I touch the probes together.

Re: Help with Cannon iP4850 Printer
Thanks,
Yes they are all the same.
Any idea what to wedge it with?
Also here's a pic of my meter, I can't find that setting?...

Re: Help with Cannon iP4850 Printer
When the probes are apart it starts with 1 on the very left.
When I touch the probes together I get a reading of 00.8/00.9 on the right.
When testing the solder points I get 01.0 on the right.Last edited by SmartestSmarty; 07-21-2014, 03:30 AM.
