    HP Plasma PE0000

    Hello everyone -

I recently was given an old HP PE0000 Plasma TV that has a very dim picture and appears to be somewhat black/grainy splotchiness that eventually clears up over the course of 30 seconds or so. The dim picture however does not appear to get any better with time though. Since I like to tinker I am trying to figure out how to fix it. I've read several posts on here that symptoms like this could be related to the power supply and was going to take it apart tonight and test that with my multimeter. Two questions I have, 1. Does this sound like a power supply to you? 2. I am not completely sure what reading to expect from the multimeter on this brand/model of a TV. Does this vary from brand to brand or is this a standard reading applicable across most or all makes?

Thanks in advance for the help!

I would be more inclined to say bad z sustain board.
Did I leave the soldering iron on?

I can tell if that's bad if the board is not warm/hot to the touch once I turn the TV on and then off, correct?

The board on the far left. First check fuses.

The board on the right has a bulged capacitor too.

Thanks! Getting that swollen capacitor swapped out. As far as the fuses are concerned they are covered by a white shield where I would expect to see if the fuse was blown. Is there a way to test them to find out if they are blown since I cannot visually see?

In tearing into it further I see the connector almost looks melted on what I will call the video board (where the vga dvi and audio connect into). I am not sure if this could be related but certainly didn't look right to me. Thanks!

                  Re: HP Plasma PE0000

looks like someone intentionally did that. sense the TV powers up I dont think thats your problem that's related to all the low voltage is going into that main board from the power supply which is working so I don't think that's the issue but very good observation.

replace a capacitor and after the TVs been running for about 15 minutes unplug it and feel both IPM modules these are the heatsinks on the right left bored feel if one is cool to the touch if so there's your problem

Ok, got the capacitor replaced tonight. Seemed to help a little. Still have the slow black adjustment where it fades from black splotches to a viewable picture when I turn it on. Seems to flicker and still is very dim. When looking at the back the board on the right side feels cool but the board on the left is hot. The board on the right was also the board I replaced the capacitor on. Seems like this is the culprit? Which board is that?

Your problem is most likely zsus related. The board.on the right. Replace it if you want.

this time on cold startup it didn't do the black fading thing but the picture doesn't look great and still appears to be real dim. Here is what it looks like.

Yep, Z-SUS pretty much 99% of the time if it looks like that.
You can check the Z-SUS Vzbias voltage and IPM ERC voltage -- post a close up shot of the board.
(Z-SUS is right hand board looking at the back of the set.)

the fuses are covered where I would expect to look to see if it was blown. I imagine I can test this with the multimeter by placing my positive/neg on each end?

Ah, OK, it's a fairly old 42" which doesn't use Vzbias. You can check fuses. It uses a Z-ramp which requires a scope.

You can check the two red capacitors, just below this heatsink.

Voltage across them while operating should be 65V to 150V.

The red capacitors, is this something that I have to take the board off and test from the bottom side? Then I assume I would put the multimeter on 200V to test in that range?

                                        Sorry for the dumb questions.

Thanks....

I did an hdmi port repair for a PS5 and I lost the small diode z71 SOD923 on the back of the port. I did a trace repair for pin 19 of the port as well. Without the diode I get no display at all. I tried replacing the diode twice but after I get flux on it the marking comes off so I can't tell if I have it on the right orientation. When I measure I get a reading of 1(open) and 923 in diode mode. Is 923 a normal reading for these and also which side should the reading be with regards to the arrow on the board?...

                                          Hi guys,

I have a LG Plasma that went bang one night.

Long story short, I took it to a "professional" shop to repair the YSUS board that was shorted and they did a half ass job.

I'm a long way down the path of teaching myself component level repair, but not 100% confident in everything yet, hence what might be a basic question.

The repair shop replaced 3 transistors on one of the two heat sinks and fixed one short, but the second set of transistors on the second sink still had a short.
