    First set the multimeter to 24V or higher. Then ground the black probe to a screw hole on the chassis. Check the 5 V pins first, and then the 3.3V on the connector. Sometimes you need to press really hard to get contact or use a safety pin to get into the connector tho make contact.

        We'll, I didn't get a reading again. Then pulled a dumb move and tried to check the voltage on the fuse, while plugged in. Popped the gfi in the garage, and blew the fuse. I'm in over my head and will bring it in before I do irreversible damage. Thanks for your assistance so far. I hate giving up without at least trying.

            O.K lets start from scratch here... Do not worry about the fuse, We have all done it at some point... If the fuse blew its a good thing as its stopped any major damage occurring.

            Take a pic of your multimeter and upload it.

            We will talk you through step by step of how to exactly test the outputs... If you are unsure then DO ask us!

            I will and hopefully anybody else following this thread will take any pics you upload and highlight what you have to test as well as highlighting what your DMM has to be set to.

            Right... you had a standby light... this means you had a 5v output... without this the standby light would not come on. The PSU (Power Supply Unit) will send 5v to the main board at all times... This is so the main board has the voltage ready for the standby function... when you press the power button the main board picks this voltage up and sends ~>2.5v to the PSU PS ON/OFF Pin telling it to switch on.

            Do you understand this so far? If not then shout up any questions you have

            Once the PSU has this signal the remaining voltages will become present... if any fault becomes present within ~ 3 seconds a signal is sent to the PSU to switch off.

            So we start to troubleshoot....

            Get the pic of your DMM and we shall start... ready?

                OK. I got the rocker switch figured out thanks to the good advice on this forum.

                Now I need to figure out the correct wire to go to the switch from the broiler element and from the oven element.

                This is a Whirlpool RDE3340 electric range.

                The common wire on the switch appears to have a high temperature insulating material. I am guessing that both the wire to the broiler and the wire to the oven elements also need relatively high temperature insulation. What do I need to look for? The broiler is rated at about 2400 watts.

                Where may I find parts...

                We have an Lenovo Yoga 710 15ISK that we use as a secondary laptop. To cut a long story short, around May 2023, while traveling, I connected the laptop into an electrical outlet that was already switched on. Something made a "pfft" sound and the laptop refused to turn on after that. After getting back home, I gave the the laptop for repair to an informal repair person.                 Vintage fan repair, copper wire question

                I currently have a customer's vintage fan on the work bench to repair.
                It uses an induction motor with 4 poles. One of the poles is open.
                I couldn't find the break so i cut off the original wire.
                I have measured the other poles and the resistance is about 28 ohms per pole and I measured the diameter of the wire with my digital calipers and it is 0.35mm in diameter.

                I need to work out how much 0.35mm diameter enamelled copper wire i need to order for it to be 28 ohms. I have used this calculator and it says i need 160.35 metres.

                I was Ollie today which is a close out / surplus outlet store I do not go in there to often because you find things that you should not be tempted by but that is a another story

                1070 GPU. DVI port removed, wire in its place, why? Stuck on low clocks too.

                I got this recently as-is. Gigabyte 1070 video card.

                DVI port is removed. I don't know why.
                A wire is soldered across two spots where it looks like the DVI port was. I don't know why.

                I've read of people simply ripping out DVI ports and the rest of the cards still working fine. Never read anything about soldering a wire in there for some reason.

                The card seems to work fine, except it's stuck in low clock speeds. While starting a game or benchmarking, the clocks may momentarily increase to around where they should be, then goes way back down and stays...
