That looks like Gamma ref voltage problem, the circuit is on the T-CON board (it is under the metal shield locate about top center of the LCD panel. Pictures of the boards?

the main board is a cv109h
and the panel is a chi mei one, with a v420h1-c15 t-con

worth a try on the tcon?

I would actually say it looks like LVDS setting is wrong on main board.
On these models: service menu is SOURCE 3690. Then go to panel option and try to change settings.

got it, input 2580, i changed 'ti mode' to on, in the 'function' menu
that made the menus look normal but still no picture, so i tried 'reset'
            everything is back to normal!

Good troubleshooting, Tom! I have seen this same picture in Insignia, replacing the AS15 solved the problem, just goes to show that it cannot be 100% for sure, it is good to have people like Tom that have seen problem like this before and able to solve the problem.

Nice fix. The reason I disagreed with gamma chip fault is the transitions are too sharp. With gamma chip going bad the picture can look similar, but the transitions are completely smooth.
The menus looked similar to a 24" Bush I did and Source 3690 was for that, obviously this is slightly different.

Ah, thanks for the tip on the transitions.
