LG 37" lcd tv won't respond to remote

    Hello,
I have an LG 37lc7d tv that won't respond to the remote control unless you insert a small headphones jack into the TV's "remote in" plug on the back panel. This usually does the trick until the next day, same problem again.

Also, second problem (possibly related), when the tv does work, the "setup" screen will flash on & off which gets real annoying.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

Sounds like the remote jack is shorting out to me, You would have to open the tv to see if it is easily dis-connectable to isolate.

That is very common problem due to switching contacts inside the jack that select between the internal IR receiver and the External. You have spray a little contact cleaner inside the jack and insert the mini jack in-out bunch of times to clean the switch contacts.

Thanks for responding, tried both suggestions, cannot disconnect the jack without desoldering it.
Set worked until I shut it down for about an hour, now same problem but now it won't respond even if I plug in the mini jack.
Possible I have a bad main board?
        Thanks.

If you plug in the minijack then the front panel IR sensor will be disconnected, the jack is make for External IR receiver.

Sorry, I didn't leave the mini jack plugged in., I worked it in & out several times to try to clean it out. I also used contact cleaner. still no results.
            Thanks

Shall we continue in this thread only?

3.4V is checked on the power board, you would need to disassemble the TV.

Since cleaner+mini jack worked once, I'd just try it again, it might be very contaminated.

Thanks for the tips, set still won't work. Now it won't respond to panel controls either. I will be opening it up & testing for the 3.4 volts.
I swear I've had it opened up so many times that I'am gonna put snaps on the rear panel. If no 3.4 volts are found, what should I check next?
                Thanks

Generally 3.4V will measure low on these sets e.g. 2.5V which causes a variety of problems.
