Vizio m550nv orang light and no turn on

So I just picked up a vizio m550nv led tv that when plugged in the orange vizio light turns on but the tv won't turn on. I know other vizio a had this problem and it was a EPROM gone bad. Some say a voltage regulator. How can I test these things cause I'm trying not to buy a new main.

Hey so I looked at the main board some more and I found this what I think is a smd capacitor but I don't know what the value or the part number of this. The number on the board is c285. Is there a place I can look up what kind of capacitor this is so ican try replacing it.

If you measure it with the Ohm meter, does it show really low resistance? These MLCC will usually shorted out.

i havent tried to meter it yet i just saw the one side of it was melted down a little bit.

Hey I just metered it and it read00.1. Does that mean it is shorted out. Cause it looks severely messed up. If so how do I find the part number of it to get a replacement

That was metered with the board disconnected completely from the tv

00.1 Ohm? KOhm? or it shows the same reading as when you short the two probes together? if it is the same, then it is shorted out, MLCC failed in shorted out mode.

Yea it's showing the same as when the probes touched. Awesome hopefully this will save me 150 bucks. How do I find out what kind of smd cap to replace it with

That will be the hard part. Can we see bigger area around the cap to see if it is high value (10~20uf) filter cap or low value (<1 uf).

Ok here are some Picts of the board and some of the other caps as well. I metered other caps like it out of curiosity and they read the same except for I think two of them which on the meter read .638 or 0.L. So I'm guessing all the ones that read 00.1 are bad. Now the picture with the caps that look like their good metered the same but don't look messed up. I also metered some even smaller caps and they read the same thing 00.1. And show I be metering this while it's hooked up to the tv or separate from the tv.

The TV should not be plugged in when do the resistance measurement. I would remove that suspected cap and take the resistance reading off the board. The circuit will usually has caps in parallel. When thew cap is removed, you should then take the resistance reading where the two pads are to see what resistance you get.

So I have another cap that looks identical to the one I have to replace. Since there are no markings on these caps I don't think there is a way to find out what kind it is. But another question. How do I know which side is pos and neg. I have one soldered in and I'm nervous to hook it up not knowing if its gonna mess it up more.

It is MLCC (Multi-Layer-Ceramic-Cap), no polarity. The size will not really tell you the capacitance. Do you have cap meter to measure its capacitance? Does it test out as shorted?

I don't have a cap meter. But it def tested as shorted. I put on ohms for few sec then switch to volts and it showed no voltage. I tried same test to another one and that one showed voltage slowly decreasing. Well I guess I will plug it up now and see what I get. Cross your fingers

Ok plugged it up and the light turned orange and then started turning white then orange then white and then orange. And kept repeating. Any ideas

Measure the voltage on it.
