    LG 47v550t possible panel failure?

I salvage this 47" LED LG LV550T it was displaying black and white lines my initial thought was tab bonding issues or connector ribbons to the tcon and panel.
I fired it up quickly and noticed that in one of the strips the tv menu was displayed but polarised and backward. I left the set on about to do some checks cables seated properly etc looked back at the screen and noticed the picture completely gone, backlight still on but nothing no lines.

Tcon chip was ridiculously hot so assuming it had failed I ordered a new tcon which I got for pennies I've installed the tcon and I'm back to where I was with the lines the only difference is the part polarised image comes and goes its still backward.

There's no real reaction to tapping the screen

Any advice is much appreciated I'm gonna check out the voltages here's some pics

I'd check the panel tab bonds - if one is getting hot it may be defective.

I'm gonna strip the bezel off and check the tab bonds, what threw me was the fact that the part image of the tv menu and the no signal LG logo was backward.

Strangely, bad tab bonds have been found to cause inverted images, I am not sure how but they can.

Yep, I found that inverted image (partial screen) problem on 26" SAMSUNG with bad tab bonding.

Ok bezel off and tabs exposed.....hmmm its quite clear from looking firstly at the metal surround scorching looking closer at the tabs a couple of the tabs have actually burnt out on some of the lines, looking at it there is staining on the metal surrounds which could be liquid or resin residue from the melted parts of the tabs, possibly gotten in there. Bottom line major panel failure, a real shame it's a nice 3d smart TV. But hey it was free and adds a bit to the knowledge will salvage some boards and scrap the panel.

TCL 50S535 bad tcon or panel issue?
              by x_orange90_x
Just bought this for 10 bucks yesterday hoping to fix it. The guy said water dropped inside from a dehumidifier hose and it started showing black and white vertical bars then went blank. When I got it home and turned it on it came on fine and displayed correctly but I was noticing faint vertical bars in the image. After a little bit I turned it off and back on and it was a black screen again. I opened it up to check for water damage and corrosion but didn't find anything of the sort. I cleaned the ribbons anyway and reconnected them but still got a blank screen. If I disconnect the right side...

Driving a Sharp TCON/panel with a universal main board
              by advant
This thread is about trying to get an Universal Main Board to work with a Sharp TCON and panel.

I have a Sharp LC-46D85UN TV that has had a main board issue. Since this model is from 2009, I am not able to find an exact replacement of the main board. Instead, I decided to see if I can future proof this tv by getting a Universal Main Board (T53U21.2) from China to work with the Sharp TCON (CPWBX4291TPZA) and panel. The universal main board supports a 8 bit dual channel LVDS interface whereas the TCON requires a 10 bit dual channel LVDS input. I have modded the LVDS connector to match...

General Questions on the Relationship Between Mainboard, TCON and Panel
              by mmartell
My goal here is to be able to use boards on hand to swap into faulty sets when the faulty board is not obvious.

I will start by asking what is the format of the output from the mainboard and is it generic in any way or does it vary by manufacturer and/or model ?

And as far as I know a tcon and panel must be a matching pair because the timing of the signals and the voltages required to drive the panel are specific to the panel itself. (That may be a blanket statement that isn't true in some cases where the panel creates its own sub-voltages on its panel boards?)...

Amazon Fire TV Omni K24NE5 tcon or panel bad?
              by Lee M.
TV came on with BL on but blank screen. Disconnected one of the ribbon cables from tcon to panel driver board and now I have half of the screen working normally. Any way to tell if the problem is with the tcon or the panel driver board or the panel itself? Should I just replace the tcon and see what happens?

Sony KD-65x8500b - bad Tcon or panel?
              by rimwall
Hi, hoping for some views on this one which I've not come across before. The TV generates an image that has 12 noticeable bands across it. The image is still there and accurate, but the colour (or perhaps the brightness) changes gradually across each band which creates a noticeable 'step change' at the edge of each band. Given it's a 4K TV with 2160 rows of pixels, I'm guessing the 12 bands correspond to 12 gate drivers of 180 rows each. If this guess is right, then perhaps:
              a) all the gate drivers are malfunctioning the same way (which seems unlikely), or
              b) the Tcon board is malfunctioning,...
