Ok my new su and sc arrived today, hooked everything back up and I still get 7 blinks, so assuming (yeah I know) that my new boards are good. I unhooked the sd and ran the cha jumper. about 1/4 of the screen now comes on, so I guess the sd is bad as well even though it tests as not shorted. Anything else I should look for before I order a new sd?
Looks like first time setup menu to me... before you order SD, try entering analogue TV or doing test patterns (refer to service manual for instructions.)

I will give that a try when I get home. Just curious though it won't start with both connected. I unhooked the SD to get to that point. That's a relief though as I couldn't find any buffer failures that looked like mine. I also noticed the manual says the d board can cause 7 blinks as well. But that shouldn't be the case because it goes away with the SD unhooked.....correct?
Ok hooked up an analog source and this is what I get with the sd unhooked cha jumper in place.I couldnt get into the service menu without the remote, may dig out a universal and program it in for this tv.
It looks like at least some of the buffer board connections are loose. You may have bad SU and SD?

Got my new sd today, after many many resetting of the ribbons we have a good picture.
Thanks tom, Just an fyi for anyone with a similar model the top of the screen wouldnt display anything until the sd was replaced.

Well the owner was coming to pick up on sunday, so I plugged it in to show them it was indeed fixed and it gave me the 2 blink error......Doooooh. I opened it back up and froze mc301 and it started up. So I replaced the small mlc shown in other threads, and once again it works. My question for tom, the other threads used a 1uf 50v cap. Does anyone really know the value of that cap, it seems so tiny to be rated that highly. I replaced with an electrolytic on extension wires. But if in the future if I run into it I would like to have a couple mlc's on hand. Long story short happy customer in the end.
It's likely 1uF/16V. I have used caps that small (0603). In fact you can get 10uF/10V in 0603 size, which is pretty high density.
Interestingly, the fault of 2 blinks usually gets slowly worse and worse, so it probably exhibited that problem beforehand.

When I talked with them about the smoke residue inside they told me they inherited it along with another LCD tv.... neither one worked. So they wanted to get the big one fixed, it may have the other trouble for awhile and just waited to rear its ugly head when I thought I was done. I will order a few of those mlcs just for good measure I'm positively dumbfounded that they shoehorned that much capacitance in that itty bitty little capacitor.
Multil layer ceramic capacitor technology has come pretty far. About 20 years ago you'd be lucky to fit 0.1uF/16V into something that size and there's now talk of a 22uF/10V coming out in 0603 in the next few months. They're pretty reliable, I'm not sure why the ones on these Panasonic boards die so often.
Did you do both MC-module boards? One causes 10 blink and the other causes 2 blink.

If it does come back with 10 blinks before power button is pressed you know where to look.
