    LG 32LK330 after lightning strike

Had a lightning strike very close to my house that took out a few electronic devices including this LG 32" LCD TV. Trying to fix it, so popped the case off. A few of the other components that got hit had obvious charred area's, but this one has got me. Everything inside looks perfectly normal.

It's model LG 32LK330. I am getting a flashing red light when trying to turn it on, and no screen. It was attached to a small DirecTV box that allows me to access my main DVR. The HDMI on this DirecTV unit stopped working, but the box itself is working via other cables.

So I know there was some issues with the HDMI, but not sure if what fried the TV was via the HDMI or the power supply.

It's a similar issue to this guy: LG TV red light flashing

What he did was replace the power supply board, and that didn't work, so he replaced the main board and that fixed it.

Any thoughts? Here are some pictures, I know some of you are so good you can spot a blown capacitor, but to my untrained eye everything looks good.

Re: LG 32LK330 after lightning strike

I had a LG LCD Tv that lightning hit and damaged the DVD player taking out the HDMI port. All the SMOS voltages were good, even the STBY 5vdc. Set would turn on but no video or OSD. I found where you can get a free service manual but I did not notice blink codes. http://www.electronica-pt.com/index....down/id,20750/

I would look real close at the HDMI chip and around that area, look real close on the top of the IC for small hole. I had VIZIO with lighting damaged that had HDMI IC that looks normal until I look real close with magnifying glass and see small pin hole on top of the IC.

I looked at som pics online of the mainboard. The fried part has three legs?
D821 ? A6? What I found A6 to be is BAW62 a three legged device with two diodes inside the three legged package. Clean the carbon from the traces and remove the burnt places before putting new part back in and powering up. Got you a Service Manual with Schematics but I have not looked carefully at them yet.

I reviewed the schematic. On page 24 D821 (A6 a BAS16T Dual Common Cathode) switching diode. Schematic list it as ENKMC2838-T112. Bad news is the cathodes tie to IC801 a AT24C02BN-SH-T EEPROM. It killed your HDMI 1 port. Remove it, clean thhe carbon from the traces in the area it burnt. Your other HDMI may still work. Maybe. The Anodes of D821 tie to the same point that feeds the other two HDMI diode anodes and those diodes feed their respective EEPROMs. Good Luck

Elitebooks (820, 840 etc. all gens) and those continuously flashing Power LED + flashing CapsLock LED
                by STKR123
As the Elitebooks (820, 840 all gens) only show flashing Power LED and flashing CapsLock (continuously) + a very soft "ticking" noise near the DC Jack,
I wonder if re-flashing the BIOS might be of any use here.

As far as I understood, steady flashing either means insufficient power or a CPU/GPU/Motherboard issue. I use the original 65watt power supply.

There are so many threads out there, but most of the solutions involve flashing codes, which I dont have or claim that you MUST use the original power supply, do a hard reset, reseat the RAM, clean the RAM,...

HP EliteBook 840 G6 – no power after lightning strike
                by Bardou Kari
                Hi,
I’m trying to fix an HP EliteBook 840 G6 that stopped working after a lightning storm.

                – Charger is OK and 19V is present at the motherboard.
                – No charging LED, no fan, no reaction.
                – I don’t see any 3.3V or 5V near the coils.
                – Battery is unplugged.
                – I’m new to board repair but can use a multimeter.

I added a clear photo of the board.
Any idea where to start or what to check next?
Thanks a lot for your help!...

Yes it's a 17 year old Panasonic plasma!

I was watching TV when there was a huge lighting strike nearby my house that shook the house. When that happened, the picture on the TV froze and the TV wouldn't turn off except by pulling the power cable. Now if you plug in the TV, it seems to turn on (it makes the turn on "clikcs" it always does, the red power light comes on but there is no picture, although I can see the back light around the edges. And the TV doesn't respond to the power button on the remote to turn off, and doesn't respond to the manual power button on the front...

Samsung UN60EH6000 wont come on after lightning strike.
                by karthur
We had a lightning strike a few days ago really close to my house. My Samsung UN60EH6000 was on when it hit. Afterwards, the TV would not come back on.

I had repaired this TV a few years back by replacing the T-Con board. (The post I had on this is repair is here.)

When I turn on the TV, I don't get any start-up melody. The screen just dimly flickers around the edges.

Here is what I have checked.
On the power supply board, 14pin connector:
                1 :12.7 Vdc
                3 :12.7
                5 :12.7
                7 :12.7
                9 :0
                11 :5.
                13 :5....

Lightning Strike: 55" TV dead: is display panel OK?
                by MrCreosote
                THE LIGHTNING:
This was a very close strike, blew a 15 amp breaker for all ceiling lights in home AND could smell ozone for a few minutes after strike.

Very close and probably a very strong EMP.

                THE TV:
No standby LED. Some voltage from PSB (not totally dead).

But found a kit of ALL 4 circuit boards for $55.

At first thought, this will fix my TV.

But then lightning has the ability to totally fry semiconductors. Which would include any or all of the PCBs. However, the display is one big semiconductor and given...
